One easy way to check, if not a final way to check, is to take one nd put it over a flame and if it burns green then it contains PVC. I was told this by an expirenced dealer, but make sure you do it outside if that wasn't clear.

Thanks everyone for your input! they do have lids that lock and unlock. there is absolutely no marking on them, I guess I will have to get burning them! as far as them banging into one another I mainly store copper pennies in them. I just use some of them for collections of circulated quarters. I would never keep any nice ones in them!

Another indicator for the bad (plasticized) PVC would be how they feel (slick and greasy) and smell (heavy plastic odor, like a new shower curtain).

i love the smell of new shower curtains!! anyways I just had some melted plastic dripping while it was on fire. it looked pretty "orange" to me.. the flame didnt look out of the ordinary.... now I am curious I am going to go find something with pvc in it and let it burnnn!

The fire in my eyes went away.. I couldnt find anything with pvc in it. I looked everywhere.. is not as common anymore? just carl- good idea I will pay for shipping too!
