I'm still trying to perfect the melting process you set up for me my friend. When you are doing it with just a torch it is so hard to get it poured before it solidifies. I'm working on it though. I have a whole mess ;0 of silverware I'm gonna melt soon.

I've been scoping out garage sales and flea markets for a few years now found some nice finds of 925. I bought 3 chains at a rummage sale a couple of years ago for $1.00. They weighed in at about 22grams. For a while I was getting great deal on old 925 salt and pepper shakers on e-bay but people caught on and the prices went up.Occasionally I'll still find some jewelry at garage sales but its getting harder to find the deals. I probably have about a half a pound of 925 now. Keep looking.

Sterling silver is the first thing I look for at garage sales. Be sure to check estates sales too. Prices tend to be a little higher at estates sales, but still well below melt. My best garage sale find was a Royal Danish coffee pot, creamer and sugar bowl...45.98 troy ounces for a whopping $55 this past summer. A guy overheard how much I paid and said it was priced way too high...I see him regularly at sales and I buy everything that he walks right past. I have also bought sterling spoons, forks, pie servers and a Morgan dollar at a garage sale. The coffee pot started my obsession with finding sterling silver and silver coins.

I never find silver at garage sales. But that may be because there are a lot of pickers in my area. Everytime I go to a flea market there is always someone else who already asked for silver before I got there

Well, it's not silver, but... I have had good luck at garage sales and flea markets for finding lead. A lot of this is as wheel weights but some as bars. Handy stuff, lead... especially if you are into casting.

Yea when I was little I moved into a house that had tons of lead bars. I wish we kept them. Id sell them now, or figure out how to cast myself.
