Rusty, I have been wanting to take a trip to Yellowstone for quite a few years. But from CA, it would be somewhere around 2 12 hrs days, unless I powered through the night into the next morning. lol I do get to go to Yosemite once or twice a year. In my opinion, however, they could have done a much better job with the ATB Yosemite. HH

My neighbor picked up 4 Olympic Park quarters in her change last year when she went to Oly Park. I'm wondering if the parks get a bunch of rolls as part of their promotion...

It's odd that they are so rare. Has anyone else also noticed that a lot of them are not strongly struck and often have a cloudy surface rather than a nice luster?

I have not noticed that they are cloudy unless heavily circulated. All that I have pulled are fair nice coins.

I've seen "cloudy gray" Quarters going back to State Quarters (New Jersey had a lot of those), and it could be planchet rinse or oil on the dies.

Yup, agreeing with DNA. I think it's some new process for the newer quarters, because I've never seen an old quarter that looked like that.

I'm just glad it's not me. I was beginning to feel like I was crazy. "DOES NO ONE ELSE NOTICE THIS?!" And I always felt that most of them were beautiful coin IF that cloudy gray wasn't there

I found 3 high MS Hawaii Volcanoes this weekend. Theyre my first found in circulation and theyre beautiful.
Someone had mentioned it earlier, but where are you guys seeing about the mint making a decision on whether or not to continue the S mint coins in 2013? I'm not finding any good news on that.

Quote: I've never seen an old quarter that looked like that. I never saw an Eagle reverse Quarter look like that, but the great majority of the New Jersey D's I got in circulation back in 1999 were dull cloudy gray (the worst of them looked like they'd been run over by the Mint truck). By 2009, only a very rare occasional D.C. or Guam was gray. The ATB series started in 2010, and guess what, I got a bunch of cloudy gray Hot Springs-D's in my change.

DNA, interesting--most of the Guams I see (which admittedly isn't many at all) are nasty, ugly cloudy gray.
