Id get the album. Like everyone says it doesn't have to be a super expensive thing to be in an album

One of my nickel sets I was trying to get together for over 20 years and really isn't worth a lot, but I have a lot time invested in it. So it's special to me and is in an album. I have three complete nickel sets and they all started off in Whitman folders but are now in an album. For me, the deciding factor for putting them into an album was that I had coins falling out of the Whitman folders, so finally I made an executive decision to upgrade. I'm now doing a fourth set and it also is starting off in a Whitman folder (just for the sake of continuity and the way that I've always done it). Not for any other reason. I'm also starting a second State Quarter set (also in a Whitman folder) but will probably transfer it to a regular album once it's completed.

Used Danscos are the way to go, if you can find them. I got a used early half dollar dansco at a coin show recently for $5. I have no early half dollars, so I flipped the pages over and put my commems into it. I love it.

That wasn't hard to talk me into it! Coin show at Ocean City, MD this weekend. Will look around there and online. Am giving myself till the end of the year to find one and if not I will buy a brand new one. Found out the Dansco store (Which is owned by Modern Metal) seems to have the best prices for albums and the cheapest shipping prices. Also got mine the next day in the mail. Thanks guys. This may be my cheapest collection but it is probably my favorite collection. Saw 2 coins in it I think I can upgrade to BU this weekend for probably $10-$15 dollars.Always working on it. Cant say that about my Morgans or Eagles. Just my thoughts edgman

IF you go to a coin show, ask dealers if they have any used ones to get rid of. Same with any coin stores. Although your sort of stuck on the name Dansco, you might want to ask dealers if they have any Albums regardless of brand name. As with most people the Albums are just hidden away anyway so what difference does it make what the cover looks like.

I recently went through the same folder to album change for all my from modern circulation sets. I couldn't stand the folders anymore, and albums do make a nice gift, so ask for them.

My circulated Jefferson nickel set is probably worth a lot less than yours, but I still have them in a Dansco album. When I bought the album, the coins were certainly worth less than what it cost, but I still wanted the coins to have a nice home that I could enjoy. I consider it added value and not an expense.

It does look like you should get a Dansco, either new or used. For me I like having all my main set in the same albums. One other option might be a album for sale at wizard coin. I have not seen them yet, but have been thinking about getting a couple Just for extra set. The Jefferson album is $5.00. Of course I have no idea of quality. http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/home.php?cat=420

I agree with all the opinions here and it sounds like you do too, edgman -- Dansco (or at least some other quality album) for sure! And yes, check flea markets, coin dealers, and bullion shops for used Danscos. I've gotten most of mine for 5 bucks or so each.
I started off with the theory that I'd do Danscos only for BU/Proof collections and folders (thumb busters) for collections from circulation. Well that went out the window in a hurry. Partly due to the fact that I am in/out of my circulation albums way more frequently than the BU/Proof ones, partly because I like the pages of an album vs the tri-fold of a folder, partly becuase the coins are just nicer to look at in an album than a folder (and you get to view both sides), partly because albums look better on a shelf, partly because albums offer better protection of the coins, etc.
I use the Whitman Classic albums in addition to Danscos. I actually like the text on the spines of those better than the script of the Danscos. At this time my Danscos are still for my BU/Proofs and The Whitman Classics are for circulated. It's all a matter of personal preference, I guess.
Have fun and post some pics when you get your album!

I have a complete Jefferson nickel set minus the 1950d. All of them I found in circulations within the last year and a half. So I paid a nickel a piece for them, not a beautiful set at all. however, it is housed in a dansco album. I don't worry about the album price, it is a nice presentation and lets me enjoy looking at my coins more. Also keeps them safe :)

Aside from flea markets, garage/yard sales, coin stores, hobby shops, used book stores, you may also want to try Salvation Army and/or Goodwill stores.
