Quite a shopping spree1 The 2-cent, IHC, 3-cent silver, and Liberty nickel all look like solid coins without problems. The 1836 (quarter?) looks odd and I would suspect it's been "messed with" somehow. The large cent has EF detail but appears lightly porous from corrosion (i.e., environmental damage). The 1837 (half?) is a bit scritchy and may have been cleaned but doesn't look bad.

The 1854 Arrows (dime?) I presume isn't a proof since it would then exceed that $1100 all by itself. It has MS details and very few marks. I don't see any obvious problems although the pale area by Liberty's face may be hairlined. How is the luster? Is it full and undisturbed in all areas? If the coin is original and problem-free you may have made an excellent score with this one.

Yes, let's see some reverse photos!

Did someone say the 1854 quarter might be a proof coin (one of 10-15 known)? It occured to me that it's possible, although it was advertised as just a high end AU with golden-brown toning. Still, it was the most expensive coin of the lot. I am not sure how to definitively distinguish between a proof and a business strike. Here's the reverse:

Sunday-Shopping-Spree

Many noted that the 1836 Quarter looks odd. I am not sure if it is a weak strike, actual wear, or some kind of problem. It was advertised as a VF with contact marks. These coins are difficult to find completely problem free.

Sunday-Shopping-Spree

The Indian Head cent also set me back about $250. It was advertised as an AU but I don't see why it isn't an MS coin.

Sunday-Shopping-Spree

The Matron Head Cent was advertised as an XF. The white spots are supposed to be contained to the holder. There was no mention of environmental damage.

Sunday-Shopping-Spree

I will be able to return any of these coins within 14 days, assuming that I don't take them out of their plastic wraps and put them in my 7070. Thank you for your input/knowledge.

I have found one seller that I really like on ebay, and I will continue to buy silver coins from him (the Capped Bust quarter an half and Seated half dollar pictured were from him.) I also go by a seller's feedback rating..

Finding a good dealer and dealing with them consistently is a good way to reduce the risk. I do the same thing and certainly have my favorites depending on what it is. Dont look to much into the feedback rating as returns dont get counted against that and its pretty easy to make sure its good. If its low especially with a lot of sales stay away but high doesn't mean everything will be legit just because of the rating

Feedback doesn't mean much......GSC on ebay has like 30k feedback but most collector won't buy from them.

I agree mkman, there was a guy with 100% feedback over 300 transactions recently nailed on this site as selling cracked out problem coins for huge profits. I have found one seller that I really trust, and have bought a lot of coins from. It's also unfair to say every raw coin on ebay is suspect and that you are always better off buying PCGS coins.. I am still wondering if the 1854 quarter might be a proof strike - 1 of ~15 known or if that is a pipe dream.

Its possible, but I HIGHLY doubt it. If it was someone would have spotted it and bidding would and have taken off. You could send it in to find out, but id be suspicious of that coin personally because it does look like it could be an extremely rare coin

That was me .. but I am no expert of Seated coins, so I guess I should have not called it a proof. I have seen a few proof Seated coins, I guess first glance I thought it might be one.

Also I was not even sure what denomination a few of the coins were.

I do like the eye appeal of a few of those coins.

I love the 1818 Large Cent. That 1836 quarter does look really strange to me. I have only ever owned 1 of them and that is the one I bought for the 7070 album so I am probably not the best one to comment on it but something does look odd to me. There really isn't any coin in that lot that I do not like (especially if an expert says the Capped Bust quarter is alright) and I think they will all look nice in anyone's 7070 album

Thanks, I will complete it; in the home stretch now :) With 76 coins necessary for a complete set, There are only 5-6 coins that are not truly represented in the set, and most of them are not particularly hard to find nor costly in VF+. Then, about 10 coins have to be upgraded to make the set uniform in quality.

The final coins are: A Liberty Seated half dime (with legend), Shield nickel (With Rays), 20 cent piece (expensive), Liberty Half No Motto, Liberty Half Motto. The 6th coin would be a Liberty Seated quarter No Motto from 1838-65. I have 2 quarters from 1854 with Arrows so technically I could use both of those coins, but I should get one without arrows for the sake of completion. I expect that altogether to cost around $800 since I am looking for higher quality coins with eye appeal but am taking my time and will update you :)

It is a great thing of beauty and one could spend hours or days going through these coins with a book/loupe/internet resources learning about each series in some detail. I also plan to resell the set at some point, but I am unsure where I would be able to get top dollar. ebay seems like a reasonable bet, but they take a big cut of the sale.

That is a beautiful 1861 IHC and that is a tough date to find nice. What a great find.
