Could someone clarify ; The total mintage , according Charlton is about 665000 for the 6 coin series, are these part of this number? Even with a re introduction of 200,000 the average mintage is only 100,000 per coin.

Even if the mintage is relatively small . There isn't 30,000 hard core canadian coin collectors out there . Maybe the release of these for "giftware" may lead to some of those receiving them to get interested in coin collecting .

I would think the only further surprises will be the sovereigns . Who knows what might be sitting there though .

The mintage includes these coins.
That is why these coins would only worth above melt if in higher grades.
I DOUBT (caps for emphasis) someone will find anything above MS63 in this hoard. In other words, each and every coin in this sale worth melt and will ever worth melt.
It is a nice series but I still prefer the 1967 $20. They are available slightly above melt and at a premium when in higher grades (as with the 5 and 10, this coin will always worth melt at lower grades).

Regarding sovereigns, as long as I know, with an acquiring power equivalent to 250/300 bucks today, they did not circulate a lot and ended up being struck to pay for the WWI expenses. Most of them where sent overseas. If there are hoards (and I believe there are) they are on european hands.
5 and 50 cents where not big money like the sovereigns or the 5 and 10 dollars and should be rationalized on another way. There may exist a few coins here or there but this will not impact their market value.

I would buy the 'special' 1921 5c & 50c boxed set for $1500.00 when the RCM finally gets around to releasing it. :)

Interesting comments from a dealer on these pieces . Looks like the dealer community might of had some say on the release of them .
Re: mint release of 5 and 10 dollar gold coin hoard
I have seen the coins....very very nice....fasten your seat belts.76 bags of circs and 374 bags of untouched coins that show very little abuse....only the best are being released and rest melted 217,000 to the pot to make the rest playable in our small market that is now getting worldwide attention.......Coins were moved only twice in 100 years...RCM to B of C in 1935 and back to mint in 2011. This group of coins is what the doctor ordered for our marketplace....

Not picking on this particular dealer but in any other market wouldn't that be market manipulation ? I wonder if some were sold before hand to the dealers ?

I think that if word leaks out that anyone received first pick, then the mint may see lawsuits from those who purchased premium hand selected coins!

I have noted this before so forgive me for repeating but this appears on the RCM's Facebook page. " Royal Canadian Mint / Monnaie Royale Canadienne Hi Gary Gao These gold coins are available from the Royal Canadian Mint, and select Canadian dealers only (they are not available through Canada Post). You can call 1-800-267-1871 to order, or order them online here: http://www.mint.ca/store/product/19...v28_1912goldNovember 29 at 10:13am · Edited · Like" Either this information is incorrect, or some dealers have the coins and must have gotten them before they went on sale. However, I know of none that are selling them yet.

If this is the case then I do believe that a few Lawsuits may be lingering!

If we assume it is true that dealers have the coins but aren't selling them, then I think that speaks volumes to the dealer's opinion of the quality of the coins. It's going to be a very long month plus before these things get shipped...

Maybe some of these dealers were brought in to offer advice on which coins would belong in which set. That could be a good thing. Higher quality coins released

I agree Coin Chick however the mint said they had their employees check the coins. If they did have dealers in to help catergorize the coins then that would be a good thing but if they sold off the best of the coins(first choice) to dealers without disclosing the information then that could very easily work against them and possibly end up with a lawsuit or two.
