yoda - The seller was Lighthouse Numismatics. They're located in Halifax, and specialize in high end coins. When my lottery numbers come through, I'll be making a trip out east.

that is a beautiful coin, worth big bucks. What was the price that Greg Jones was asking for the piece? It looks like every bit of a MS66+ coin from what I can see.

$366,650 if I remember correctly.

ouch. Realistically, though, this was more of an advertisement (IMO) that the coin is in his possession, so that the upper echelon of collectors can contact him to negotiate a deal.

http://auctions.tcnccoins.com/1921-...wed_i9221985The price might not have been that off. $165,000 + BP + Tax would be $220,000 in Ontario. The one for sale is nicer. It's been a little while since I was regularly buying and selling coins of this value, so it's hard for me to say how much more the 66 could sell for than a 65.

there is a single PCGS MS 67 example in existence. Has anyone here seen it? If so, how does it compare to this example?

probably not Yoda. similar to the 1935 Canadian silver dollar PCGS MS-67. I've asked hundreds of times on dozens of forums, unknown!

@jakedacc, I own one of the 1935 $1 in pcgs ms 67...so they are definitely out there.... @jg86, I've seen that photo on Stan's website in the past, but I'm underwhelmed with it based on that one image. I was wondering if anyone has seen it in hand, to say whether or not it's distinctly superior to this example owned by Greg. My guess is that it has more luster than the image suggests.

yoda - I agree. I haven't seen the coin in hand, but if it looks the same in hand, I'd be stunned by that grade. I'm sure it is more appealing, but when selling a $300,000+ coin, I'd like to think you could take (or pay someone to take) a very nice picture of it!
