Reshot this one. I think it came out good. For some reason I find this coin difficult to photograph. It is slightly wavy and the patina is very dark in contrast to the fields and high points.

In a recent thread I saw an opportunity to post one of my most beloved coins the First Meris Tetradrachm. I was thinking about the importance of capturing the true fabric of the metal...I don't know but I took more shots of it.

I noticed that the photo that I had long posted of the coin, seemed mute in color compared to the coin in hand under the same light condition.

Admittedly the original mute photo does not convey an accurate representation of silver toning. So I took a bunch of shots with my new set up.

Reshoot...

Finally I got Nahapana too look as it should. This was no easy task. The super dark toning of the silver makes the photo exceptionally difficult.

nice indeed.

those black coins are difficult indeed, I've never got it just right. the best luck I had was in full daylight, but still had to edit the photo pretty heavily.

Thanks orfew. I am always trying to improve on the images. Its the critique and support of my fellow members that helps these ancient coins come to life and makes the hobby a far more fulfilling experience.

Recently, around sunset time I had an inspiration that I wanted to share with Coin Community Family members.

I decided to display my ancient coins - all except one actually - with the dying rays of the setting sun caressing their rough and aged visages.

I think this can result in very beautiful images. I have attached a picture showing this.

Good looking group shot. The contrast provided by the low sun does indeed bring out a lot of surface detail.

Nice coins and great pics! When I have the time, I want to do the same. Saw your Tetradrachm, I got the same type this year. Yours is a much nicer example though.

Thanks for the positive feedback Bob L and travelcoin

For me a sunset and the resultant evening light, that "dusted rust red light of ages" always invokes nostalgia. I get a similar feeling when looking at my ancient coins. Hence, sooner or later it was only natural for me to connect the two.

Squire

PS. Thanks for the compliment regarding my Alexander III coin travelcoin. However, I do not yet have a tetradrachm in my collection. I have a Alexander III drachm and I am really happy with that one. I have not yet taken it out of its cardboard coin holder....
