i might just hold onto that silver eagle I got from the coin shop, even though its about a third of of my silver value, id prefer not to sell my coins so if I can just hold out until tax returns get here and wait for silver to go back up.
im really on the fence about selling so it may not be time to call it quits just yet

Sell only the bullion with no numismatic value

thats actually a good idea, as time goes on itd be harder to find the actual coins like quarters and dimes, I mean, its almost 50 years since they stopped making silver currency, and bullion is always produced, I think you just changed my mind and ill just sell the silver eagle when silver goes back up and get back more than what I paid for it

Sorry to hear about your financial troubles. A lot of collectors see their interest in coins wax and wane many times over. Perhaps when you feel more secure you can enjoy coin collecting again.
Best wishes, Joe2007

My advise would be that if you need the money sell what you need to to pay the bills. I would start with bullion first and basically hold on to your favorite items if possible.
My reasoning is that if you need the money you need the money. You can always get more coins at a later date but debt will grow and cost you more in the long run. I would add though that even if you do have to sell if you like coins dont let that sour you on them. Just think of it as a vacation from collecting

its funny because my favorite one right now is the silver eagle, I got a plane ticket to new york for my "birthmas" and I'm leaving for a week, I will see how silver prices are when I come back, I heard silver prices are supposed to go up a lot int he next couple months

I understand how your interest has fallen. That happens to many of us in our various pursuits. I've always wished I could be single-minded and stick with interests for a lifetime, but it hasn't worked out that way. However, I have returned time and again to several passions and hobbies over my lifetime. It will probably happen to you. I feel for you, having to sell your coins. My thought is that you should sell the eagle; you can get another one when you're in better financial shape. But keep the coins that are, well, antiques. Some day you will return to them--and I'd love to feel the joy that you will feel when you look upon them again.

Sounds like your fairly young, when I was in my 20's money was tight as well. Plenty of time to get back to coin collecting if you decide to, and the cash flow will improve with time and hard work.

I like the "vacation from collecting" idea. There's no law that says you can't start up your collection again in the future.

If I were to stop collecting I don't know what I would do with my time. Mailman is right though; you can always take a break and start back up. I took a two year break before finally being able to start back up and I have been going strong ever since.

Well two things- 1- sorry to see you go. I am just coming back after almost 9 years gone. things have changed so much and I have a ton of catching up. I hope you come back to the hobby. 2- SAVE your ASE and dump everything else that is not of numismatic value as was stated.
