Follow up question: If the local coin store told you it was real, what grade did they estimate it at?
And a favor to ask: can you please use periods, commas, etc., instead of one long sentence? It is difficult to follow your questions sometimes.
Thanks!

Not problem - effort appreciated on the spelling and grammar.
You mentioned that you had a coin store look at it to verify it was gold. What grade did they estimate it at?

Ok, if one store estimated it at 500 uk pounds, they must have had an idea of the grade in order to come up with that estimate. By the way, if they did offer you that, I would consider heading back there and accepting that offer and purchasing a slabbed one then pocketing the rest of the money. Current ebay sales for that coin are significantly less. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sad...tified&rt=ncHere is a certified one in better shape than the one posted: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1862-Gold-D...047675.l2557Good luck!

You need a different coin shop. The piece appears fake because of the dentils and also because the surfaces look gold-washed instead of gold, though the odd gold color could have been from being in jewelry, I guess. Regardless, if it is real it is only an EF or so and appears to have been cleaned. The 1862 is the most common gold dollar and even in problem-free AU, which this coin does not appear to be, the piece is only worth $200-$300. If this piece is real it is worth less than $200-$300, which is obviously far less than 500 pounds.
You can argue if you want, but I know what I am looking at.

I know very little about this series. However, I have read that because of their small size, 'jeweler's copies' in good gold have been made, and turn up reasonably often.
