Not a bad looking coin.
I use fluorescent lights from two sources and a pretty awesome cell phone camera no flash. For super close up shoot photo through a 10x magnifier and zoom in.
Lots of photos of coins are scans from various types of scanners.
Some here have USB microscopes too.

ah ok. I'm still a novice here. decided to focus on pennies, all circulated. I'm hoping for a nice zoom lens for my birthday this year, that might help a little.

thanks for the advice!!

Happy Hunting!

How can I tell if I have found one of the valuable 2006 pennies? I found a magnetic 2006 with no mint mark on the back - is that all I need to be looking for?

Cheers!

There are six different varieties. All combinations of Magnetic/Non-Magnetic and P/RCM Logo/nothing. See http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1965-2013 for the various values.

Im still hunting for this variety ! Arghh... I'm determined to get one before the pennies are pulled.

From the large amount of 2006 pennies I searched through, I have never come across a 2006P...odd

Thanks kuh_85!

I use that site a lot but sometimes have trouble following their nomenclature. So I'm guessing that since the penny I found looks like the one on the 2006 page (not as mint condition as that one, but still very nice) with no P, no RCM logo, and magnetic, means I found the valuable one :)

Cheers!

So a quick question,I have been searching rolls for about 10 months and still no Mag 2006 ,Decided maybe to buy one on the bay and have noticed the prices over the last couple weeks are climbing. With the demise of circulated pennies from the banks next month,no more searching rolls , Do You think these will go up in value? I noticed in my new Charlton that the
circulation report is only (222) . Can this be right?

There's lots of speculation at this point as to what the prices of pennies will do. Initially I believe the prices will climb, especially for the more desirable ones, as people scramble to fill out their collections before the prices climb even higher, forcing a temporary inflated value for pennies. There will always be those who succumb to buyer's fever and will pay far more than trends or book price to get their set. After that cooler heads will prevail, and the pennies that people are now hoarding will start to trickle back into the buyer's market and will supply much of that hot new demand, and prices will fall again, down to about where they are now. Myself, I haven't seen any numbers reports on the 2 rare 2006's, but I have heard that prices were falling on the no p/no logo magnetic to a more reasonable level as more were coming out of the woodwork. I found one of those in my change just yesterday, so I know that for now they're still available (at least for the next week). Again, this is all just my opinion, but I've seen trends like this in other collectables and feel the same will happen here. Wait out the next couple of months and you may pick up that 2006 for $20 - 25 or so. Good luck with the hunt!

I'll take some of that good luck - searched about 20 boxes worth, got the 2005P magnetic and 2007 logo non-magnetic, but no 2006P non or reversed planchet-to-stamp coins..

The 2006 P are out there.
I find about twenty-five 2006 P (magnetic) in circulation.
I used to find one out of every two boxes ($50).
It is the non magnetic 2006 P that are the holy grail. I have not heard any reports of circulation finds.
