Wow congrats very nice find I'm jealous haha.
I used to have an awesome collection like that till around a week ago until someone decided to start collecting coins the easy way and grabbed a 3rd generation collection out of my car after a coin show.
I want to feel the weight of some silver coins in my hand again lol. Gotta go start my collection from scratch and get all new coins but hey thats the fun part haha

Wonderful story! I love hearing when coins are passed down from generation to generation.

Maybe next year it will be:

"Remember this 1916d dime you didn't want? I hope you will reconsider. Son? Son? Quick, someone get water, I think he passed out!"

"And she's like "the stuff you didn't want last year"
...ummmm.... No... I'd never seen any of that except the bigger box. She had given me tons last year including the same whitman folders of most series of US coins...
Well my mom, god bless her, has a horrible memory.. And had "forgot" to bring these out last year.. (Although she still swears I saw them.. If I had they would have been home with me a year ago...)"

Nathan, about the last thing on my mind, after losing my dad, was a *#@!(% coin.
Glad you revisited.

I'm not sure what you mean? I live less than a half mile from my mother, I go there every day.. Or her here. I just finally had some time to go through the world coins so I asked for them.. As she gave it all to me last year.. I just didn't choose to take it all home...
Coins were the last thing on my mind when my dad passed.. 3 years ago.. 2 years before my mom have me the first lot of the family coins.. And my gramps passed in '92..

They'd both said they wanted me to have the collection, because I used to collect world coins my grandparents brought me back from vacations from around the world.. but my mom held off on even telling me about them until I was about 30 because she didn't want me to sell them and buy a toy, which I very may well have done to buy a toy or something (quad, snowmobile etc)
Before she gave me the lot last year my wife was bringing out trash at work and on the top of a box in the dumpster was a leather bag. Curiousity got the best of her and thankfully she grabbed it.
It was a 1993 ASE, Peace $, 1863 IHC, few proof sets, silver Kennedy's (all 1964's) a some other coins and a bunch of scrap jewlery. She asked the bosses at work (a nursing home) and it was boxes of things from passed patients/residents, whom had no family or were unclaimed/wanted boxes... So they told her to keep it.. She gave them to me and I got hooked collecting again and a few weeks later (after talking nonstop about it the whole time with mom and wifey) my mom gave me the collection knowing I wouldn't sell it and would keep it going.

It's so nice that the coins were kept safe all those years. Enjoy!

Very nice coins! It reminds me of when my uncle gave me 8 silver quarters and 4 silver dimes!

Thanks everyone! Ya I was really happy! This was just the "icing on the cake" or "desert" lol.. last years lot was the big lot.. Except for the Washington's and Roosevelt's it was all doubles (triples, etc, lol) but I definitely upgraded a few of the halfs... O, and that was my first barber half! And the rainbow toning is AMAZING!! Even though there really low grade quarters the tone makes up for it! They'll stay in there!
I ended up trading in alot of the first lot in over the summer. I kinda felt bad, it took months to decide to do it. It was just that I realized all the $'s were common dates and I could upgrade them all to MS grades for a small price on top of the trade in so I did (23 Morgan's & 4-5 Peace dollars, except a GSA Morgan and one of the Peace dollars which were MS, they were all pretty rough.. Well EF at best, so except those 2 they were all traded ((the GSA is explained below)) I don't think gramps or dad would mind the upgrade.. I felt bad because they were theirs... But now their all nice and shiny, lol.
I also upgraded/added to (and most just about finished off, minus super keys VDBs etc) the rest of the sets I got...well and of course started like 10 more.... I couldn't be happier, and I hope their proud!! I LOVE coins now, lol. I thank gramps and dad for starting me on such a great hobby, it's been great, & I owe it all to them!

"Remember this 1916d dime you didn't want? I hope you will reconsider. Son? Son? Quick, someone get water, I think he passed out!"

Haha.. Too funny
Ya...that'd be sweet... Lol, but I had her search her room after finding these in case there was more... Nada... But who knows, coins, especially single coins, can hide anywhere... So I hope so! Lol.
There's actually a few coins still in her safe, a GSA CC Morgan, 1971 silver Ike in the mint package with the blue chip, and a 1967 no mint mark mint set in a nice little case. She said they're mine and "gave" them to me but because they were her fathers she wants to keep um there for a bit still. Which is fine by me, I have a key to the safe and house and have permission to "play" with them whenever.. And I understand her reasoning behind it so its all good.

--"Nice. Be careful with that dime folder, their going to fall out (the folder is upside down)LOL"

Upside down? I don't get it, lol. The clad page is folded behind the right page and those are faced down.. But snug... Otherwise in the pic I'm just sitting on the floor holding it in front of me tilted back a bit.. Not upside down though?
Lol, or do you mean that it's so empty that lots already "fell out"
(O ya, the clad part of the dimes and clad section in the quarters were only missing a few and all MS.. lol, actually after the printed date slots ran out my gramps (or dad) wrote the rest in to the end of the folders)

Tiberus123- I'm really sorry to hear that! That sucks! I just read your post about it.. Wow.. Ya... I'm really sorry, I can't even imagine!

And again thanks everyone! Sorry for the long posts, I'm just excited! My wife (and mom) like coins, and my wife will buy one for herself occasionally, but I can't "talk coins" with them... They get bored really quick, lol. Nor is there a coin club within an hour+ of me... or even anyone I know that collects so again sorry for the story.. I just have nobody to talk to about it:(

I'm with you there on those last couple of comments. I constantly have to check my enthusiasm, cause most people aren't into it.
But I firmly think that your dad and grandpa would approve. Your just continuing what they started.

Yes, I wish I were part of your family. I am the only coin collector in mine. I'll be doing the passing down....
