I don't see what Rachums107 did that was wrong other than misinterpreting a confusing post. I thought the same thing.

I'm not judging him, and he gets no prejudice going forward. The only thing I'd mention is that both he and the person he referred to participated in a thread where each revealed their actual ages.... If you're going to draw a conclusion in public, especially if it's couched in language which may be interpreted as being somewhat accusative, such conclusions must be based on fact, or at least the absence of evidence to the contrary. In this case, proof to the contrary is trivially easy to obtain; his conclusion wouldn't have stood up to five minutes' research. And in a thread which can go wrong in a second, one which I and other Admins are watching like hawks, nothing short of intellectual rigor will be tolerated.

To me it does not matter How he aquired his collection, the fact that he seems proud of it I give him kudo's. I however, would probably not do a you tube video of it..but to each his own.
what would be nice is if he came on CCF and had some coin collecting discussions with us. I am sure he could contribute and in turn receive some expertise from the CCF family.
I noticed he joined CCF recently, but I was hoping he would stick around and converse with us.....and share the wonderful world of collecting, sharing, educating amongst friendly people as we all are here.
Hoping to see him around and sharing if he chooses to do so. If his presence was to solely promote his Video's then that's another story.
Just my opinion.

When someone posts a video or a bunch of photos of their collection I don't get why people have to question where the money came if the person is young in age. I, for one, really don't care how he financed his collection and I am certainly not jealous of it. Each person's financial situation is different and each person makes his/her own choices as to what to collect and the condition of the coins he/she chooses. From his narrative he sounds like he has quite a bit of numismatic knowledge and knows exactly what he wants with a plan on acquiring those things. Quote: There's plenty out there, but I won't just buy things for the sake of buying them. Most of the thrill in coin collecting comes from collecting and not having IMO. My primary issue with the video is I do believe he failed to realize that he has put himself and any other family member living in his house at risk by posting that video and also giving his Facebook identity. Facebook collects so much personal information on their users it would be fairly easy for a determined individual with criminal intentions to find where he lives. Ed ANA LM-3175

Wow, I am amazed at the petty jealousy spouted all over this thread. I'm new to coin collecting/investing. I certainly hope I don't become like this.

If I did a video on my collection, I'd need to film it at the bank. In my vault. This video is an invitation to a future problem. I don't care how good your house safe is. A safe can be hauled away.
Some may consider this 'showing off' and others look at it as an education or entertainment. I have mixed reviews but I can admit it was fun to watch. Do you think the IRS was watching too? I'm not implying he's done anything wrong, I just think that he's taking a chance and increasing the odds of a future problem.
It's like winning the lottery. All of a sudden you have new friends and family members who come calling, looking for a handout. And then there are the ones who don't ask.

They probably have a couple 250,000 dollar cars in the garage as well. The thieves would probably have allot to choose from. I would guess they have security measures in place.

I include myself in this comment: we criticize this young man for his exhibitionism, yet we gladly watch it.

I must confess. When I viewed this thread last week shortly after it was posted, I "liked" his facebook page and posted the link to this thread on his f/book page. I also was seriously thinking of posting some videos of my errors on youtube, but I'm still in the middle of procrastinating and not sure if or when I will get this done. In a previous post here on CCF, I had mentioned that I have photos of all my error coins on facebook also and was thinking of posting some of the photo album links here. Anyway, he does have a nice collection, and anyone that can purchase what they like, and money is not a problem, can build a multi-million dollar collection in their lifetime. While most of us here could never touch a collection of this size, we have to agree that we all love what we collect and like to share what we have with others. In the past I started collection coins from circulation in the early 1960's, and in my 20's (mid 1970's) turned my numismatic interest to Colonial & Obsolete (Broken Bank) Currency, along with 18th & 19th century Ephemera. In the mid 1990's when I entered the Internet age, and had access to error coins, I sold my Currency collection as one lot and delved into the wonderful world of errors. Anyone that visit's ChrisDotCalm's facebook page can click on my post there and have access to photos of my error collection (look for the quadstruck cent). The one thing I love about error and variety coins and currency is that when you're lucky enough to locate some extremely rare errors (and varieties) for your collection, you have a hand up on the person that can afford to purchase what they want, but can't purchase what you have due to the rarity. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while this 20 year old collector has a collection valued in the 6 figure range of common Silver that anyone with the money can purchase, I value my error collection more when I factor in the rarity and sentimental value. One photo from my ephemera collection is below, a 200+ year old sheet of unissued bank checks.

Yes, I would agree that CDC didn't use the greatest judgement in terms of using discreetness. In the last year, (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed has noted several news articles where dealers have been robbed and killed in burglary attempts. In addition, not to mention the scores of home invasion robberies. Sometimes this day in age, protecting your identity and location are pretty important, especially in the practice of video blogging which seems to be picking up steam.
