Quote:Does that Buffalo nickel say 1911? LOL, Ya got me! Yes 1911. I was going to have trouble with the 3 so I used an easier digit. A 1. Didn't give it a second thought. Don't even think I can play this off as an early pattern!! BTW, these took a few hours to complete. Had to give myself a window of time to do. Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Quote: Freehand or stencils? Stencils from coin images from the internet. I had to pick the highlights but the outlines are from coin images. I got experience carving pumpkins from the kids Halloween stencil kits.

Hmmm, could be a good way to raise some $$ for the coin spending piggy bank.

Those are amazing!! Maybe next year you can try a harder coin design? Possibly a SLQ?

Quote: Maybe next year you can try a harder coin design? Possibly a SLQ? I thought about the quarter. Hard for sure. I'll give it thought as to the possibility. I was thinking the Lincoln wheat reverse or a Kennedy obverse. I think the wheat back would be easiest. I'll post next years pumpkin(s). :)

very nice I just don't have the patience to do that. On that 1909 LWC, did you carve VDB on the reverse

I know the light wouldn't shine through as bright but have you ever put the obverse & reverse designs of a coin on one pumpkin? Your carvings are pretty cool.

I've considered that but I thought loss of light would be too great for the designs to really stand out. In hind sight I probably could have done so with the cent. Thanks again everyone for your compliments.

Artwork that needs, and should be preserved. Some hours of skill and talent have been invested here
I guess that dessication of the pumpkin would be a major problem, which would lead to major cracking and breaking up. Fungal growth could be a problem as well.
A water based sealant, which when dried or cured, could stabilise the remaining moisture content.
Experiment on a non carved slab of equivalent thickness first.
