I was visiting some folks in suburban in Las Vegas a few years ago.
While I was there, I decided to hunt around the coin shops, looking for ancient coins. I found two dealers in ancients.
As soon as I spoke, revealing my Aussie accent, they immediately thought "tourist!" and the prices quoted automatically shot up to an average of about double.
I didn't buy a single coin.
Next time, I shall have my local Vegas residents speak for me.

Will I find the lists of stores on the TPG websites?
What's to say I can't afford the other guy?.......ah your right. I'm poor. Lol.

I will have to hide my CDN accent. Eh.

I thought about going to the pawn stars place to look around. I'd never buy or sell. Thought they would have cool stuff.

Yes, but just Google "PCGS Dealers" (for instance) rather than navigating their website; you'll get a direct link that way.

I'll be in Vegas in April. Hopefully there will be a top-notch list of shops in this thread I can visit by the time April rolls around. :)

I don't really have a desire to visit Gold & Silver. While I'm sure they have a lot of really cool pieces, I don't want to fight the crowds and like Fat Freddy said, they likely have less-than-competative pricing. You'd think for all the money those guys have to be pulling in from their show that they could update the place a bit. It looks terrible (at least on TV).

I'm heading there end of feb. to bellagio. With the hotel deals they give me it costs way more to book elsewhere.

I will go look at the pawn stars store for the experience but not to buy.

I go to Gold and Silver Pawn 3 or 4 times a year and is a must in my book. The wife and I really like the show and unless they are filming the line is nonexistent. I make it a point to buy a coin on every trip depending on the win/loss percentage of the trip. Prices are higher at G&S but you get to say you bought a coin from or say this coin came from G&S Pawn and thats cool to me. So I guess my point is Vegas is so awesome don't worry about coin shopping, you can coin shop at home or online. There are so many things to do you won't have time to think about coins. I buy at least one thing each trip so I can at least bring a little money home. I have purchased anywhere from a 1/2 oz platinum round to my most recent purchase an "old man" round.

Google PCGS coin shows and see if one of the their Vegas shows correspond to your travel dates. I have head that they are some of the best in the country. That is one event I would love to go to even in Vegas where I spend 98% of the time drinking and gambling. God, this is making me want to go back asap, to bad I just went in January :(

Good Luck

I've been to Vegas at least 10 times so I have burnt through most of the tourist stuff. Plus I'm going for 10 days so I figured it would be neat to see a coin store.

Vermontensium
Thanks for the tip.

yeah, I'll probably hit up Gold & Silver just to say I've been there. Perhaps they'll have a 2013 ASE for less than 10 bucks over spot. ;)

I went to Gold and Silver Pawn in early Feb. It took about 25 minutes to get in. Only thing I bought was 2 of the "Old Man" 1ozt rounds they had on the show a few seasons back. I did get a picture with Johnny the Toy Shack owner. It was a good experience.

Stopped at 4 shops today.

Round em Up coins at 5310 West Sahara, Small selection and so so pricing. They wanted 26 per $1 face for 90% Not much for raw coins and all the slabbed coins were SGS, with a couple NGC mixed in. Nice people that seem to be just starting out.

Rainbow coin and jewelry, also on West Sahara. Don't bother. No displays and told me they would not show strangers... Looked like a front to buy gold cheap from unsuspecting people.

Nevada Coin at 6380 West Flamingo, This place had some great reviews but I was disappointed. No copper at all and just a small amount of 90% They had plenty of bullion with rounds at $3 over spot and Eagles $5 over. They seem to focusing on buying gold and silver.

Sahara Coin at 7293 West Sahara. This is a must see stop. Huge inventory both raw and slabbed. Prices clearly marked on a price board that automatically adjusted with spot. 90% was $21.65 per $1 face which at .75 of spot is even better than my home dealer. A 20% premium was added if you wanted Barbers or Standing Liberty quarters. Still a good deal. Has Wheats at $29 per 500 count bag. They claimed they were un-searched. I bought two. Took a couple of handfuls out of the first bag after I left and found a 09 VDB, 1912, 1917, 1917-d. Went back and bought 4 more bags. That's about all I dare pack back home. I think I will get some 90% tomorrow before I leave. Nice place, great service.

I did not bother with Gold and Silver Pawn as the line was down the street.
