The RCM has been striking medals / medallions for collectors for decades â€" I have a number of them in my collection. So, with the RCM's current fascination with the Chinese Lunar Calendar (based on the number of coins it is producing) it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if they produced such a medal / medallion set. That said, I called the Mint and asked if the RCM struck the medals in this set - no need to continue speculating. The answer: No, the set was not produced by the RCM, it was made in China and the RCM is selling a portion of what was struck.

the reason RCM likes the lunar calender stuff is because they sell and for a premium. I'm asian and I know a few who only check RCM ever 12 years to collect their own zodiac coins. They don't complain about price vs weight because they don't care what spot is or what he resale value is. I am one of those people. I had the coin from 12 years ago and I am back and purchased the snake lunar coins from this year.. I don't plan to sell any of them ever and I plan to purchase the snake lunar 12 years from now again. Except this time I decided to start venturing into others coins and found fascination in coins like the GITD and 20 for 20s as well as few others. These sell very well in Asian malls in Canada. Post offices by asian populations are always sold out quickly.

The lunar calender stuff doesn't have much premium, so I don't collect them.

Thanks for all the information.. I feel kinda relief that this piece of sh_t is not actually minted by RCM. It has a very strong vibe of those poorly designed NCLT products that was minted for the small island counties in the South Pacific Ocean.

Sorry, but I'm not into them for that price. They don't have the eye appeal of round coins AND they are copper...!
