So they lost the rights to the name, and are now continuing to release coins under the "Silver Shield" name, while the mint they made a bad deal with will keep pumping out SBSS rounds? How utterly confusing. Their quality control and increasing frequency of releases has taken most of the luster off for me.

Oh, some of those were nice. I liked the AG and Argyraspiders. I do think the quality dropped DRAMATICALLY after the AG round.

I was reading through the thread and wanted to clear-up any confusion regarding the Silver Bullet Silver Shield series. 1. Silver Bullet Silver Shield (SBSS) was the old coin series name. It was rebranded to Silver Shield in January 2014. 2. The old coin series was tarnished by the Mulligan Mint's reputation which continued to mint unauthorized version's of Chris Duane's coin using different combinations of dyes which were already produced. Additionally, they had access to some of Chris's coin designs which were "in-process" at the time of separation and created new un-authorized coins under the SBSS name. Chris Duane changed the coin series name to "Silver Shield" in an effort to separate himself and his coin series from Mulligan Mint. 3. The current coin series is minted by Golden State Mint. Turnaround times are much faster and the coin series minting to retail sales process is finally starting to proceed smoothly. 4. I am the Vice President of SD Bullion. We had to make a decision on whether we wanted to separate ourselves from SBSS for reasons mentioned in this forum. Specifically, our bullion business receiving reviews of slower turnaround time which were solely the result of the SBSS coin series line. I am very pleased we stayed with Chris Duane and his coin series as they finally have their act together. Our turn around times on normal bullion items are 1-2 days after cleared payment. When we receive our bulk Silver Shield Series order in, we are averaging 2-3 day turn around times and well within the pre-sale date we advertise on the website. This is in sharp contrast to the turn-around times of Mulligan Mint as you have all commented on. I hope that helps clear-up any confusion. It's a great coin series with a very interesting history.

But how did Chris lose the rights to the name? Why is the demarcation not more distinct? A lot of advertising materials talks as if the series are sister series, when in fact, this is essentially a dead series now (SBSS) if you want an original collection.

Im done with the Silver Shield line. This last release did it for me. re-releasing the freedom girl and cannabis round was a dumb move and the other rounds so far have been very poor designed. Bitcon looks ugly, snake looks like he just slapped that one on there.....making 1/2oz jesus rounds and then ohhh here is the 1oz rounds was stupid. Terrible looking rounds.....also it seems like every time a new round is released there is an error version or whatever.....how many mistakes can one company make. I really liked the SBSS series and I'm all for Chris but his new line is boring and not worth it. end rant

I am glad I just sold off all the SBSS stuff I had. I will avoid them from here in.

Valid points. The battle with Mulligan mint is well documented. The series started with Chris Duane providing the designs to Mulligan and leveraging his marketing channels. Mulligan mint supplied the actual minting of the coin, the website maintenance, and also took phone orders direct (when the series first began).
It does seem that Chris Duane overlooked important details of the intial contract discussions regarding trademarks, rights to the series/coin names, domain name, etc.

Governments re-release designs every year for profit. What's the difference here? This guy is exploiting beliefs in conspiracy theories and religion, while governments issue their money for public use.
Also, with the trademarking and such, looking at this man's videos it's clear that he cared more about his cause than making profit but that mentality is backwards in the business world. He should have seen it coming. Fact is he readily took people's cash for his product when his philosophy says otherwise. That alone legitimizes government-backed funds over silver as to what is actually money. A better plan should have had him trading his silver for your gold at a small markup - now that would've made sense.

Who has legal ownership of the dies? Isn't that what counts? Places can hold dies for you but they do not own them.
