Since the dollar coin was not being used by the public I doubt removing it from circulation would precipitate an increase in quarter production. The production of cents increase by over a billion coins (21%)...no explanation for that one

The dollar series was not cancelled and the coins are still being produced for collectors

This seigniorage coin producing by the mint is getting a little annoying where they have to make each coin design at each larger mints Denver and Phil.

i understand that each coin collected and saved is more in the US Mints bank account but when low mintages are made just to satisfy collectors like the low ATB mintages and Kennedy halfs...etc One mint can make enough instead of 2 mints doing double the work for coins will most likey never be used for commerce

Contrary to popular belief the Mint actually makes coins intended to be used in commerce. When there is a need for more coins of a particular denomination they will produce more of that in the style currently used. Since the Mint needed more quarters at the same time the Denali ATB Quarter was at the plate they stepped up production and made the 302 hundred million.

Since they are statutorily limited to certain designs in the year they can't just make a bunch more types to keep the circulation figures consistent.

Maybe they are trying to make up for the seignorage lost from not making President dollars for circulation. Trying to stay out of the red.

He is entirely right, seignorage levels are not predetermined. Circulation quality coins are not made for collectors, nor are they made in quantities to insure collectiblity.
They are to fill orders from federal reserve banks. The more the banks order, the more that are struck. The increase in the mintage of the Denali quarter, may just mean that people are finally starting to collect the series and are pulling more and more 2010 and 2011 out of circulation.

it makes sense that they are filling them to demand. its just annoying thats all. going from chickasaws 120 mil down to chacos 44 mil, then up to denalis 300 mil. lets see some consistency here!

heres 2013's mintages :
white mtn- 350 mil
perrys- 100 mil
great bas- 50 mil
ft. mchen- 45 mil
mt rush- 400 mil
joking of course!

Let's all throw all our quarters into circulation to insure that the White Mountain quarters are the key to the series.

Uhh, quarters are minted to demand by orders of the Federal treasury. The story is the stockpile of older State Quarters held by the Feds is near exhaustion, so they require the mint to coin more quarters. The stockpile was exhausted near the end of 3Q when they were preparing for the Denali design. It increased the Volcanoes mintage but the bulk of the order was fulfilled in the 4th Q. The original purpose of coins was for use in commercial transactions, not to PO coin collectors and hoarders. The Feds could careless about the latter unless they fail to pay their taxes.

The Denali mintages considered individually, for both ones made in Philadelphia and Denver, continue to account for less than any of the State Quarters minted. 302 million is enough for roughly one for everyone in the U.S. to have one or the other. I consider myself a big ATB fan too. I have every P&D roll set to date from the U.S. Mint. To me, a higher mintage leads to people actually knowing these coins exist and potentially more ATB collectors. There are still people who haven't seen these coins yet because of how few have been made.
Rest in Peace

See now, as a small (and struggling) business man, I could dance with joy at the news that the Denali quarter mintages jumped so high. It means people are spending money! Walmart and McDonalds need more change! Thank goodness! The economy is picking up! Maybe they'll start spending more money at my store too!

I was surprised, too, to see the Denali mintages jump so high compared to all the other ATB issues. I suspect that it was due to Federal Reserve demand. It will be interesting to see what 2013 mintages are. Interesting to read all the comments above.

however, for the first time it passed up all of the territory coins and even some Washington quarters. the 1968D, 1971P, and 1969D have lower numbers!

The ATB series still has one big "ace" over State Quarters, no matter how many of a particular design are minted:
Banks can't special-order ATB Quarters like they could for the State/Territory Quarters.
Sure, there may be 300 million Denali's, but can you go to your local bank and load up on Denali BU rolls for face value?
