Can you believe PCGS only graded this XF-40?!? Me neither! Judging by the responses here and in the PCGS forum, I will probably put this coin in the reconsideration service option. I was thing 50 to 53 myself, the weaker wing is typical for this variety, plus it does have nice luster around the edges.

Wow - if you got it for XF40 money, I think you did well.

I was surprised to see this as XF as well. I was going with AU looking at the photos. I wouldn't even guess numeric on this piece, as I don't know this series that well. I quick looked at a CAC PCGS XF45 at Heritage and it looks no where near as nice as this coin to me.

I would have guessed a easy AU50 to 55 on this half.
Looking at both sides, I don't understand how the Eagles Right Feathers would show that type of wear pattern when the balance of the coin has a sharper strike, and this may be the culprit for the lower grade.

This one is O-102a, and judging from the strength of the obverse die cracks, about as late a die state as it gets. Designated as R.1 but the value jump from XF-AU is big and Mint State examples....well, of 50 Uncirculated 1809's Heritage has offered, only 3 are O-102 of any sort and only one is O-102a.

If you resubmit (and I think you have another 5 points here easily), have it attributed so with luck they'll take die state and wear into consideration. For the variety, this one is in thin air indeed.

I know that I'm shocked that PCGS graded this XF-40. I'm thinking this is at least a AU-53.
