Thanks blackjack,
Like they say: "I'm a Jack of all trades but master at none." I'm still tinkering with the photography. I may get a better camera.

Looks like the camera you are using does a pretty good job. Good sharp and clear closeup. regards coffeecup57

If we keep talking about photography, the moderators may move the thread . Currently, I'm using a small Canon 8 Mega Pixel SD1100is. I started tinkering with more of the settings and have been getting better results. I may get a digital SLR in the near future. Used not new. I'm too frugal to pay retail. I bought the Canon that I use now and paid 30 dollars for it when 8 MP was the highest rating for these cameras.

You have an honest coin. Has been around the block a few times. Those of us who know these Barbers (Log Potato) will tell you that despite the "rough" appearance of the coin it is miles/kilometers ahead of the run-of-the-mill examples out there. Here is my example. The technical grade is XF (no number as it is raw) but it is funky in appearance. Should you ever regret buying your coin, mds, remember me as I have second-guessed myself low these past 25 years.

matthewvincent,
Was your coin cleaned or dipped? The obverese looks monohromatic and the reverse has some toning.

mds, I have no idea if the coin was "monkeyed with." It was purchased circa 1989-1991. I saw this ebay offering and now that it is over I have the results: It sold for $49.00 with free shipping. 11 bids total with 7 unique bidders. At $70 I like your example better!

matthewvincent, Thanks for the heads up. I also think my coin is a little stronger with less PMD.

Very nice purchase! Yeah, I would definitely take your coin over the GSC coin any day. Stronger in details department and way less damage.

Great looking coin and a good buy. I paid $60 for mine including shipping off of the bay last year, but mine doesn't have the full rims (it's in AG I'd say). There are several good affordable keys in this series, have fun!

Hey,
Believe it or not valuable un-slabbed smalls like dimes and pennies and even nickels can often go unnoticed by an auctioneer selling 'large' quantities of coins(especially silver dollars and halves) at a single auction.
Many times an auctioneer will not have the time to cherry-pick through all of these coins and would prefer to concentrate on known guaranteed payback items having larger, more discernible print.
Also NEVER ASUME that an auctioneer's visual acuity is up- to-snuff with an up-to-date eyeglass prescription.
How many times have you heard from someone, "Man. I just can't focus on this thing closeup." and then they take off their glasses in relief?
IMHO, mdpmedia
