@alphadraconis83: even though the case looks cheap, I must be better than those standard clamshells!

Received Mine today from Gatewest, What a Beautiful Coin! The Detail is amazing and just shimmers in my display case.
The case is better than a clamshell, but still lacking. I guess It's the coin we are suppose to appreciate.

I got my first one today too! What a beauty! Different background than the fractional set, but very nice.

The 5oz coin has the same maple leaf design as the 5-coin set so they all complement each other.
I think the Mint made the right decision for a different finish on the 5oz coin because it allows the coin to stand out not just for it's size. If it had the same finish as the fractional coins, the Mint might as well package a 6-coin set.

I agree with Mrpiedfort...the 5 oz looks great on its own as well as next to the fractional set. The different finish makes it unique, plus the large portrait of the queen looks really good too.

@PrinceD11, good point about the Queen. It is a portrait of a young Queen, instead of Susanna Blunt's version.

I object to the term 'young queen' - yes, not as old as she is now, but till 1964 and before was the 'young queen'.

Is the case for the new 5oz $50 SML similar to the 3 coin 'jubilee' set from last Spring?

5 oz. SML still available on Canada Post website...... got my 5 oz. in the mail yesterday...definitely does not look like reverse proof to me, I agree with CC-Ottawa.

Yes the case looks like the jubilee case from last year....

@Dcadon, you're right, it's not the young Queen, but the Queen in her late 30's designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

The price is just out of my range..... I wish I can see one in hand..... not many dealers carrying modern Canadian coins in Southern California.... :(

I just cancelled 9 out of the 10 of these that I had ordered from the Mint.... I just don't see any really success with it, but I certainly don't expect prices to drop below issue price.
