From the conversations I've had with other forum members, it doesn't seem to a hit in their eyes. Might be the next lower minted commem if it doesn't sell. We'll see I guess.

The obverse is terrible, the reverse is fine. A design of a girl scout in a uniform would have been much better for the obverse. I also think the fact that theres a girl scout commem makes it even worse that a girl was put on the boy scouts one
I will only be getting this because I'm doing an MS set, if I wasnt doing the set I would pass on this one. The 5 star general is very disappointing as well.

Though the obverse design appears to lack creative flair, I'll wait to see the coin in hand before I decide on the merits of a particular design - Mint website illustrations don't always flatter the actual coins. I'll be ordering an Unc for my collection.
In terms of popularity, I'd venture to say that by the time the coins go off sale at the end of the year, the Uncirculated version will sell between 80,000 and 110,000 coins, and the proof will sell just over double those numbers. Neither total will place the coin among the "keys" of the series.
Just my thoughts...

Don't need the new girl scout comme, my 2010 boy scouts coin already has a girl on it.  Edited by Penny4Me

I don't know why they are picking the lesser designs for these coins. If you search for them you can see the other choice they had was much more creative. The same can be said for the Boy Scout coins. I am not impressed nor willing to spend money on them as they apparently not only commemoratives, but statements as well.

Looks like I am in the minority then. I bought the Boy Scout commems because my son was heavy into scouting at the time and he HAD to have it. Plus it made a really cool gift for the Pack Leader. It is my impulsive nature that will dictate my purchase of the Girl Scout coin. Believe it or not, I do like (not love, though) the three little girls on the coin.

I think if they had shown a bit more of the adventure of being a GS as they had in several of the designs for the Obverse it would have a chance to be a big selling coin. You can see the various designs that were considered here: http://news.coinupdate.com/cfa-desi...dollar-1394/To me this coin and the BS coin are more about "diversity" than they are about the scouts or the organizations themselves. That puts them into political statement coin form for me and not truly a commemorative coin. On the other hand... the reverse isn't all bad and might look decent in hand, but I'll have to hear from some others how they like it. |

I bought 3 Boy Scout commems because my son was in scouting in past and I loved the father/son time of camping/outings... I have a few MS69 with US Flag label and will save one for son's son too! yes, it would made a really cool gift for a Pack Leader, but we were already done with scouting in 2010.

I was a boy scout and I get all the commems, but I dont think theres any argument that can be made that including the girl was a pc statement on that one. I really like the boy scout one other than that aspect. I think its great they did a girl scouts one as well, but I dont like how they do seem to be more about political statements especially the boy scouts one. |
