Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the dog idea. I think a new coin denomination will be a tough sell to the public, and I just can't see a canine coin design getting anyone beyond collectors and extreme dog lovers interested. I also agree that changing the design so frequently is getting old.
Personally, I think you will have to get $1 coins circulating first, which means getting rid of paper $1 bills. And that appears to be a difficult battle here in the US.

Possibly a good idea except the next thing would be a national protest by Cat owners. Then of course who wouldn't want Horse's on Coins. I know if given a choice my Grand Daughter would say Horses, then Dogs, then Cats, then Cows, etc. At her age animals are nicer than people anyway. Imagine if our coins all had animals on them. All coins. Why not? And as to the $2 coin. Sure and a $3, $4, all the way up to $100 dollar Coins. Or what about all our monitary system being paper. No coins at all. Even the $0.01 paper bill?

Only if the .01 bills already came folded like sail boats to use in mall fountains

I would enjoy seeing a $2 coin and even more going away from coins of dead presidents. A wildlife series would be more preferred by me, but this is all conjecture unless we eliminate the dollar bill. Without a circulating dollar coin the "double dollar" would never fly.

Fox, You mention the 40th anniversary of the Kennedy half, wouldn't it be the 50th next year? Not sure a coin about dogs will ever take off in this country, I just don't see that happening right now.

Quote: Possibly a good idea except the next thing would be a national protest by Cat owners. They can collect Isle of Man Crowns. They put out a different cat breed each year. They are up to around 30 different breeds now. Quote: Imagine if our coins all had animals on them. All coins. Why not? Because then we'd be Ireland. (Each of their coins has a different animal on it.)

just carl, There would not have to be a cat or horse or any other animal series, because, how many horses and cats have been known to save people's lives. That is what the Famous Dogs idea is about: Members of an animal species that saved lives. The only reason for the wolf, coyote and fox reverses, was just to keep the Famous Dogs series all solid canine themed, and because they play an important role in Native American agriculture. Teach, Yes, the 40th aniversary of the Kennedy half happens next year. Thats why I mentioned it and said I would want the Famous Dogs program on a new $2 coin instead.

Quote: how many horses and cats have been known to save people's lives. Horses are just as much of a working animal as dogs are. They may not sniff out bombs but they are used by police and the military. You could make a very convincing argument theyve actually been more important to the development of the country and the country as a whole Cats are a harder sell but they were on the pilgrams ships to keep rats out of the food so they have made contributions as well

I don't even know what to say... I don't know which is worse, dogs on coins, or a $2 coin.

Did I say, the 40thaniverary of the Kenndy half? If so, I meant the 50th. Can't believe I made that mistake.

If it's any consolation, Fox, a wolf (along with a turtle and a turkey) will be featured on the reverse of this years Native American dollar. That's as close to a dog-themed US coin as you're going to get. @just_carl: hope you saved at least one Mint roll of the 2012 NA dollar for her. Lots of horses there!
