Yeah I know! but for some reason my S3 cant get a good pic for coins!
but honestly, pretty much all the bag marks and necks seen on this coin is what is on the coin. Nothing is not shown.

I know grading is subjective however opinions are all over the board when it comes to grading these gold coins.
I heard from AU right up to MS 63 for this gold coin.
Normally when grading silver or nickel etc we are all in the same ball park however this is not the case with these gold coins.

To date I do believe that your gold coin has the cleanest fields of all the photos posted on this thread however the King's face and neck have been beaten up a little.

yes, speculations and opinions over these coins are pretty high!and the King does look like he's been beaten up by the commoners :P but check this PCGS site where the show examples of grading gold coins http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Dr...st5SE/Gradesif you look at the observe of a MS63 you'll notice lots of bag marks and knocks as well. It really makes you wonder if gold coins have a different standard of grading than silver. Edited by moejaber

I would give it a solid MS-62 by any standards... strong strike and lots of lustre with a few bag marks, but excellent eye appeal. I would agree with others saying that there is perhaps a bit of a relaxed standard for grading the gold coins, although I don't think there should be... Truth be told IMHO, what makes me wonder is how different the standard of grading any coin by any grader on any given day... and that includes the so-called pros... who for the most part are just throwin' a dart at the board like the rest of us... Obviously PCGS and ICCS over the years have achieved highest status re perceived objectivity and reliability... with a few others on the 2nd tier... and a whole lot of bottom feeders... However, even with PCGS and ICCS it often makes me just shake my head at how inconsistent the grading actually is... That's what really makes me wonder...  cameron93 |

IMHO... MS 63. What a wonderful piece of gold. Such a soft metal and so easily marked. Beautiful fields on that coin.
...any touch contact and it's there forever..
Would the experts here agree that the '14 gold' is the hardest to find in a very high grade..?...and the 14 $10 even harder..?

I think it is a beautiful Hand select 1914 $5. I dont see my Hand select coins comparable to this coin

You make a valid point. I always used to collect coins but grading was never my forte nor did it interest me, all I looked for was good examples of the coins I wish to have.
But after falling into this grading fiasco it makes me wonder how come a single persons opinion can have that much influence on a coins worth? and why cant the grading process be more of a group effort, like a committee of experts(kinda demanding I know)
all in all, I bought this coin for the same reason I buy any other coin, its historic significance and I'm very pleased with it!

Thank you all for your opinion! I surely am even happier to own this gorgeous coin!
However, I have a question, if you look at the first pic of the observe I provided and compare it to the the last too zoomed in you'll notice that the luster on the first shows nicely, yet it does show more "lines?" and aging than the last two which honestly shows the necks and scratched but makes the field looks "smooth". what are these lines and do they detract from the coins value?
i hope I make sense lol
