Very nice dime. VG10 and F12, but I'll give it the F12 overall .

Guvno! That is a great example of a difficult coin to acquire.
I am comfortable with a VG-10.

No, you did NOT overpay.

What mean "guvno"? Phonetically "guvno" in Polish language means sh*t:) I hope you were not thinking of my coin:P

Might have some kind of glue or residue on the obverse that could be removed by soaking in acetone.
Regardless, this is at least a VG-10 and $38 USD is a bargain price. Good buy for you!

I was just about to ask about the strange yellow spots. Soaking in acetone is safe?

I've never had acetone hurt a coin I've soaked in 25 years of doing so. Never had toning change, but have shown more color than I wanted to when some residue came off and left a lighter spot where it had been covered for decades with gunk. I'd say 85% of the time I'm successful in the intention, the other 15% turns out to be non remvable as it's corrosion or similar. Verdigris, glue and various adhesives have all been removed with great successes. I'd try with this coin, the white spots might even get better, they can't get any worse. It may need to soak for quite awhile, day or two even.

Beautiful Fine dime overall. Pure acetone or denatured alcohol might help the surfaces.

Could you give me a proven way to clean coins with acetone? I read about it, but there are many different versions, so I prefer a proven way from you. What I need to do, when I pull a coin from acetone? Rinse or wipe it?

Soak in pure acetone in a glass container, covered with glass or aluminum foil. Swirl it around periodically. Then pour off the old acetone (be careful not to pour out the coin!) and add fresh acetone. Repeat the process once more, then tip the coin onto a clean paper towel. The acetone will quickly evaporate. Do not rub the coin in any way. You can repeat the whole procedure if you think further provement is possible.

If you try it please show us some photos of the final result!

Hello:) I refresh this topic, because my coin is after a bath in acetone:) (12 hours bath) Unfortunately this strange glue is not removed, but it seems that the coin has gained some extra shine and color. What do you think about the results? Now I can say this is F12 coin?:)

That's funny thusdayclub. Acetone bath will not change the grade of the coin. I think it could be F12. At least it looks better.

it looks better now, All the acetone has done has loosened and removed surface contaminants.

I'm glad you give my coin F12:) Acetone will not change grade of my coin, but I noticed something else - I have unique Barber "freckled" Head Dime version:) (look at the nose) Only a single copy exists:)
