Yeah, those State Quarters are really easy to find. I lived in America for only 10 months and I was able to put together almost a complete collection during that time simply from pocket change.

I only collect the silver quarters and have since they came out back in 1992. With so many different reverse designs it becomes over kill in my opinion and circulating examples are just quarters not getting any real attention from the general public.

and its been what like 16 years since the last non commemorative coin was made....

that made me laugh, but I guess its true isn't it, also 34 billion state quaters would be pretty hard to hoard even if everyone was.

That's kind of what I meant, it seems as if these "commemorative" quarters are so common that they've ceased being commemoratives, at least in the eyes of the public.

I am one of the collectors that like the new quarters, 1999 to date.

But agree, only BU, proof and silver proof.

I do sell a couple set of State Quarters a year.

For the ATB, park quarters I put a mint roll of each away, but don't
Plan on selling any until the series is completed.

Depending on if you have a good outlet, to sell coins, saving BU ATB Quarters, can be investment where you could make a little .... I would not count on a great amount, but better then what I make in my savings account.... Of course that is just my opinion. And I do have some outlets for selling coins.

I keep a set in BU and a set from circulated money, but that's it. I have no delusions of these becoming the next 1909-S VDB.

The American quarter-dollar situation is rather unique in modern numismatics, in that they stopped issuing "normal" quarters in 1999 and neither restarted them or replaced the "old normal" with a "new normal" design (as happened with Jefferson nickels). I can't think of a situation like it occurring, where every single new coin put into circulation is "commemorative", not since Roman times.

In most other countries where circulating commemoratives are fairly commonly encountered in change - such as Canada, Britain, the Eurozone and Australia - commemoratives are one-off issues, with the "normal" design returning the following year. Or, as is more commonly the case these days, commemoratives and "normals" both being issued in the same year. So there are always plenty of "normal" coins to replace the commemoratives as they get pulled from circulation, and the public perception remains that the commemoratives are somehow "special" and therefore potentially valuable.

I had kept all 3200+ Statehood Quarters found in circulation through 2006 but could no longer afford to do so when budgets became tight. They had to be rolled up and spent.

Sap: "Not since Roman times..."
That's quite eerie. Maybe it's a sign.

As the economy lately was not the best, many people with those jars, cans, boxes of coins they were saving for a rainy day, got taken to banks. Many people that collected those Quarters thinking someday they'll be worth a fortune, realized it will take a million years for those to go up in value. Lots of people too got tired of all the different Quarters and decided that it's enough and dumped them all back in circulation. The amount of thefts in homes and places where coins are kept also has increased and the crooks just dump them all anywhere they can.

I am a hoarder.

There, I said it. I have a need to hoard something. In order to satisfy that need or "itch" I hoard State Quarters. Why? I's not because I think they will be worth anything in the future. I know better than that. It's because, as stated before, they are everywhere and my itch is easily scratched. At the end of the day I take great pleasure in putting each coin in it's perspective place. Everything else gets put back into circulation after checking. Even the newer Territory and Parks quarters are thrown back once I fill the holes in the grandkids folders.

Thanks for listening...I feel better now...

34 billion quarters is a lot of quarters so there are many errors. They wont be worth much. But part of the hobby is searching and finding. So if collecting them in series is one thing, but finding special ones is another.

I still see a lot of people selling individual "BU" State Quarters for $0.99. I don't see people buying them at that price; some sellers are eternal optimists, of figure it's just a matter of time until a dullard wanders by...

If they are actually a real nice example it can be a good way to fill holes in an album if one of the mint set coins didnt look good. But usually they seem to just be pulled from bank rolls that certainly arent worth it

I was at a local coin shop this past week, a guy came in and wanted 16 sets of State Quarters. The shop had some State Quarters, but did not have one complete set. He did buy all they had.

Funny part is .. I could put together 16 sets ... and was asked if I wanted to sell some .. I said no ..

I can't bring myself to sell that many quarters.... Now I wonder what sort of sickness do I have ....

Ha, I just recently had to buy some State Quarters off ebay. Try as I might, I just couldn't find all the Philly's out here in Oregon. Guess I'm a dullard, oh well.
