I'd say it's a crimper, not a spur. Not really pointy enough to be a spur. BTW, not to knock yours, but the one Penny Guy linked to is really well made. Has a nice pattern on the edge.

Oh I agree that thing is beautiful the one penny guy linked. The spur guess was from a friend who is big into that stuff, he showed me some spurs that weren't all that pointy but then again it was just a guess.

I don't know, if it was found in a known riding area it's probably a homemade spur rowel.

You're assuming it was made in the 1830's. I'm just going by what was posted. If it was a rural area and pasture land, it's possible his buddy was right and its a homemade rowel.
