Soak it in acetone. Contrary to what many well tell you, acetone will not affect the current state of your coin in a negative way!

There is a special bank in Houston I take these coins to, they send them back to be destroyed. When a face value coin has been the ground it turns it back to it's natural copper state and no one wants a copper quarter. John I do think you are right about the lawn mower, it was in a ball when I found it.

This is one weeks work so far, I have one more big hunt down at Bay City, and Matagorda Bay and Friday they go to the bank. I'm guessing theirs around sixty plus dollars there.

Oh the irony... a quarter with a 'quarter' of the coin missing.

I saw one of these last week. I didn't know it was a variety or I would have kept it. Darn the luck. Who knew a 1980 quarter that had a planchet sheet corner fold over clip error with authentic John Deere influence and genuine mystery blood stain would be worth something? I believe the badly botched lobotomy that poor George suffered symbolizes the crime committed. the clipping of the eagles wing on the reverse is apparently a symbol that the birds should stay where they are and fly in circles.

I can clearly see the image of the Virgin Mary on the reverse and that of Jesus Christ on the obverse.

On a serious note, have you found any dollar coins in that mountain of change?

Yes I have found several dollar coins...The oldest a 1924 Peace dollar, and the newest a 2007 Presidential dollar and a lot in between.

The 1924 was extremely tarnished and has been cleaned.

The 2007 is on top of the pile of change.
