Hey ND,

That is a real unique note. I never saw one before. What is the retail price for those..?

If memory serves me, I believe that we sold this note for $45 or $50. I absolutley loved the odd denomination. I am giving classes at one of the local banks on these obsolete notes, and the average person is completely shocked when they see 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 dollar notes.

ND you should post any and all notes you get in that price range as there are many here who would probably take them of your hands. I know I am big on the unusual, when I can afford it, regardless of the condition as there is so much we never get to see any more! Thanks for the look at a great piece of history.

As soon as my schedule clears, I will post many coins and notes for sale. I have been stockpiling them for all the forum members. It may be the first of the year before I truly have time to devote though, so please be patient.

If you don't mind me in this Forum? My favorite is not the most popular of American Currencies. It's the Colonial Currency. Mine is only a Two Dollar Bill. It's also not the strangest in denominations now either. If you would like as soon as I can I will send a Picture if you would like?

I have seen this post sitting at the bottom for a while. For the younger members that do not know the original poster of this particular thread, he was one of the GREATEST assests to this community. A "collector of the arts" would be a more appropriate term. I decided to bump this thread back to the top to see what the new members could post to keep our memories alive.

Additionally, here is the ONLY foreign note that we have....therefor, to me, it is the strangest/most interesting design.

Thanks Kid. By the way, I feel that you may be able to shed some light on that bill that I posted above. I know that it's of Arabic origin and that it's One Riyal...but that is all I know. Could you help me on this one?

Hmmm... It's Saudi Arabian 1 Riyal.

Not very old, I'd say Mid 1990's

Thanks! I was looking on ebay and saw one like it...the seller labelled it as an 1981...maybe a typo...but at any rate...thanks for the heads up on the correction!!!

Well, as they say, "I don't collect banknotes, but..." I do have a small collection - it's more a hoard, really. The only notes these days I actively pursue (and are prepared to pay money for) are notes from countries that never got around to issuing coins. The Confederate States is one example. The following note is another example, and it's one of my favourite notes:

Netherlands New Guinea 5 gulden, 1954 series. Netherlands New Guinea was the western half of the island of New Guinea, just north of Australia; today it's known as Irian Barat or West Papua. The Dutch ran it as a separate colony once the rest of the old Netherlands East Indies became Indonesia.
