I'm curious ..... how can the corners that are normally pointy be raised on both sides? Shouldn't the raised part be in the flat section and not the corner? Should it be raised on both sides too? Also the border rim why is it covered by the strike at the corners? Don't worry JPL, I'm usually wrong and will probably get straightened out shortly .... yours appears similar to the one found by FNQ recently, a bit different to Enworb's 1983 and the one in the link above though.

I don't know much about ramstrike 50c, but I am a little skeptical of this coin. I am going to do some reading on these.

Ok. I went and looked at the article linked to, and it still seems to me like the coin in this thread is not a ramstrike. Compare the coin in the article and the one in this thread. The article coin has the "teeth" in line with the "flats" of the design (just like larena pointed out). The coin in this thread appears to just have the original corners bashed in a bit... What do others think of this observation?

I suppose a full ramstrike with teeth would have about a 15 degree rotation. This one may have only been 5 or 10 degrees rotated and hence not as pronounced.

" I suppose a full ramstrike with teeth would have about a 15 degree rotation. This one may have only been 5 or 10 degrees rotated and hence not as pronounced." In that case wouldnt the raised parts be rotated from the original points of the sides? On this coin the raised parts look perfectly centered on the original points of the coin.

You are right ozcoins. It seems we may have been too quick to say ramstrike.

I am following this thread with interest as your coin has an identical appearance to a 1998 coin I found recently. The "scalloping" of the edges and minor teeth give the coin a very rounded appearance. As to the terminology applied and the mint process that has caused this, "ramstrike" seems most likely, but I'm keen to find an exact answer.

FNQ, I think the coin in this thread and the one you found are pretty much 50c drier coins. Instead of the whole circumference of a round coin getting worn and spread wider, just the highest points (ie the corners) get knocked and spread. From what I have seen (admittedly not very much) and can understand of the process with a ramstrike the "teeth" should only extend in 1 direction as the corners of the blank get caught on the collar as the die forces the unseated blank into the collar.

Good Morning all . It seems we have narrowed this coin to Two possibilities. #1 Enworb said a 5/15 degrees Ramstrike error, (15 degrees, Jaws Teeth) & (5 degrees Gummy Shark Teeth) if the coin is a slight RamStrike error? #2 Ozcoins has had a Brain Storm in his last Post, possible Washing Machine coin? Jeff's thread on RamStrikes Excellent, but I can now see the Teeth are on the flat side edge of the coin, unlike Mine & FNQ'S coin, that has the Teeth on the corners! So I hope someone Today can have a 99.7 Percent Hypothesis of Mine & FNQ'S coin's.( With a couple of Agreements ) What a fall back down to Reality after last nights Posts ! O'Well, Mr Trout, just wondering if you have read this Post? Becouse it might require a trip out to the Shed, only if you have a Clothes Dryer? ( and the time ). I am sure FNQ & I would be more than happy if this coin could be Replicated? Then there we should have something conclusive? But I think we are still wanting them to be a ( Slight RamStrike ) of any sort! Cheers jpl..

Ozcoins logic is pretty good. I'm sorry but I think we may have mislead you jumping to the ramstrike conclusion.

I'm surprised as I have seen another coin just like this. I think it's PMD.

Looks like a Dryer Coin to me That doesn't mean to say this was done in a clothes dryer it is simply a term to describe this particular type of PMD.

This is my 'ramstrike'. Tried hitting one with a hammer to create this result but was obviously not the same. Unfortunately I don't have a drier to try :(
