basebal21 - that is an excellent point! Resale value for a collector is critical, and one reason to actually "buy the slab and not the coin"!

But why would they put fake labels on then? They real sell stuff right?
Now if they were to put fake labels on everything, now wouldn't they have a lot of removing the old ones when they plan to sell?

They do, but I think you missed the point. His comment was a dig against the show for being a bit more scripted than one should expect from a "documentary."

I jsut saw a picture on instagram. Someone posted a steel penny and said he got it from the Pawn Stars shop. I asked him how much he got it for....he said $10 for the penny. Daylight robbery

I should say that even though I think it's preposterous that they would ask $400 for a $75 coin, I do realize that it's not just market value that they are dealing with. Salaries, utility bills, rent, Chumley's waste of air, etc. They have to make money; they are a business. Taking all that into consideration (and considering that they're making boatloads of money (assumed) on their television show), $400 or even $300 for those coins is nuts, especially without a grade from a TPG. Now -- I do like the stupid show. Mostly for Rick Jr., the cool stuff that comes through the door, and the "experts" that examine said cool items. Corey is growing on me...I think he's maturing as a businessman (if one can believe TV)... Old Man is just a crotchety foil for Rick... and Chumley continues to be worthless. If he's that way in real life, he'd have accidentally killed himself at least 3 times by now. It's a contrived show; we all know that. That's never stopped anyone from watching WWE, Storage Wars, Hogan Knows Best, or [insert "reality" show here]. Even Antiques Roadshow, Pawn Stars' obvious muse, is produced and filtered, if not contrived. Now, lest I get this topic relegated to GD, I'll return to discussing the original coins I posted with the screencap. I need both of them, coincidentally. I started my ASE collection in 1999, so I have some catch-up to do. I'm not going to pay $400 per, though. I'm not collecting graded ASEs currently, so a non-graded in OGP will do. I can't find them at my LCS, so I guess APMEX, a coin show or ebay are my best bets. Other suggestions?

Earlier I had posted what they were actually selling for on ebay...that would be a start... and much easier than wandering from shop to shop

It is an "UNREALITY" show, everything is scripted even the banter between the combatants on the show. I have a friend that was spotlighted on "Pickers" his segment lasted 5 minutes, it took 8 hours to shot! even the items that he wouldn't sell and the assorted banter between them. The prices and how much back and forth were all on cue/cards. The young lady that they had the hiring/firing flap a couple of months ago was staged for the "NEWS" coverage it could generate. Sure most on here would hire a person for their shop/TV show with out a complete background check, and only the Scumsly she's "HOT"! They were shocked when she turned out to be a actress The price's at the local Pawn shop's in this area are generally higher whether it is for coins or other stuff.

Since it's on TV they know people will come in there anyway so they jack up all their prices.

Quote: It was fun to go to the store, however. And yes, you can pick up a melt Morgan or Peace for $40 or $45, makes a nice souvenir. That's exactly what I did when I went with my now ex-girlfriend last year. She bought some really expensive something or other and I got a Morgan dollar and put it in a capsule, then framed it with my receipt as a souvenir. It's one of the bigger conversation pieces in my collection now, oddly.

Celtic Knot -- that definitely is out of this world but then whenever I pulled 40% Halves out of bank rolls I used to cash them in at a pawn shop for 90% because the owner would pay me 10c OVER MELT. Now why would he do that especially at a time where most people paid 5 to 10c back of melt? Answer he was able to sell them for 30 to 40c over melt.
