Quote: I have mentioned before that 2017 would be a good year for a commemorative or a new/special reverse. And you have both the lead time plus no commemorative programs have been approved for 2017 yet. Quote: I'm not sure that Congress has the Constitutional authority to make people use half dollars or to mandate to businesses what types of coins to hand out in change The people in general no, but tey can require it of contractors with vending machines in gorenment facilities like they did with the President dollar and NA dollar. Vending machines and change dispensers or government property have to be equipped to accept and dispense the dollar coins. They could make the same requirement for halves.

Quote: I have mentioned before that 2017 would be a good year for a commemorative or a new/special reverse. Well, I know there'll be at least one change in coinage: it's the Canadian Sesquicentennial, so we're at least getting double dates, and almost certainly one or more circulating commemoratives. I'm pretty sure our Mint can do this without any special legislation (the loonie only turned 25 in 2002, by which time it had already featured three commemorative designs).

Just got word...a multiple coin set commemorating the 50th year of the Kennedy half is going to be offered in 2014. From what I hear it will be more than two coins....wonder what they have in store :-)

Four coins. Cool. Let the speculation begin! S Clad Uncirculated S Clad Proof S Silver Proof S Silver Reverse ProofS Silver Uncirculated No Obverse or Reverse Changes Too bad the Kennedy Dollar comes out in 2015. That would make a nice add.

I was told by a Mint customer care woman, that we might even get a GOLD Kennedy half minted. She told me, just like the military coins honoring those three Generals. I told her "Yep, I've seen those on the Mint website" Not that I'm interested in paying for one, but, a 24 Karat gold Kennedy half?! She also mentioned silver, which I expected, then I mentioned a copper clad series and she mentioned "Probably some of those, too" But unfortunately, no redesign bags or rolls of halves or any for general circulation, and a redesigned half probably has a better chance at circulating than all of these constant dollar coin redesigns.

The Mint should use this as an impetus to end the Kennedy half with a bang. They can then eliminate the Half Dollar altogether, since no one but our intrepid Mr. Fox ever uses it.

I use halves all the time when I travel for tolls! Here is what I would like to see....two series. Series one....clad proof, silver enhanced, gold reverse proof. Series two... all silver, one from each mint...enhanced, proof, reverse proof, high relief.

I say forget reverse proofs, I wanna see an S silver uncirculated half since they were first minted in 90% silver. Asking for silver P&D halves would be asking too much...

There definitely be two sets.
Set 1 Silver S Proof Silver D Unc Silver P Reverse Proof
Set 2 Clad P Clad D Clad but with a matte finish in homage to the 1998
The first set covers all the mints that ever produced the Kennedy, the second set is an affordable set, but still with a unique coin. The Kennedy has never been produced in gold, it would be disingenuous to mint a gold version now, just as a money grab.

Took them long enough. I had sent a request to my VIP. I had also communicsted my interest in gold in 2010, so yes. I am hopeful of a gold coin. Please don't think I am somehow privy to favors of any kind. I am a regular Joe, I would just encourage anyone to voice your concerns to people who are in a situation to affect change. You would be very surprised what you can accomplish. I am hoping for the external flame, but I will only know when you guys too.
JBuck, yes email people, you just need to choose the right people. I have a grin on my face, and I have to say, the system DOES WORK (unlike our Congress L-O-L)
