Wow, congrats on an unbelievably wonderful, lucky find! Just awesome! Wow.. I've looked at every and all 1992 cents that pass through my hands for one of these.. But nope.. Lol, but then again I'm sure we all do. And I agree, absolutely the same coin, no doubt about that. Again, congrats, that's awesome!!

On a side note being from Mass and hearing that's where others have been found gives me a new glow of hope, lol. As does your find!

I'd have it graded. (something I never consider myself) It would be a coin worthy of grading to get a "Genuine" slab for it. Who knows what the gavel will on this coin.

I'm not sure who to send it to. If it didn't have the problems on the obverse, I would send it to PCGS. I don't have any knowledge of NGC's preservation service. I have read that both companies have stepped up their game on doctored coins.

I spoke with Bill Fivaz this morning and he confirmed my reservations about NCS. I plan to meet with him tomorrow and decide where to send it for certification and grading. I hope the coin will grade at AU55-AU58 but we shall see.

I met with Bill last Saturday night and it seems that PCGS would not grade the coin due to the corrosion on the obverse. I was a little suprised that most of the people I showed the coin to were not familiar with the rarity of this variety. All did agree that it's a 92 D Close AM. I have never sent a coin in to be graded, how much of a pain is this process to go through? Looks like NGC is the best option..... any input?

Or ANACS. I'm not familiar with slabbing, but most feel it takes longer than they think.

This coin will get a Genuine holder at any TPG. It's an AMAZING find!

I have been lucky enough to own or broker 6 different examples of this coin. An AU58 in a PCGS holder that I sold on Telerade 18 months ago fetched a record price at $4100. But prices have slipped very quickly. This coin has come out of the woodwork with the known population more than doubling in the last 24 months.

Most recently I sold a PCGS AU58 example in May, I accepted $2000 in a partial trade deal. I probably could have easily realized $500 more, but it was a simple and quick deal.

I feel your coin (if slabbed in a PCGS holder as "Genuine, AU Details) would fetch somewhere in the $700 to $1200 range. There is too few "problem" coin sales recorded to give a more specific value. It's possible it could bring more, but impossible to know until it's offered.

If you'd like some help marketing this coin and realizing strong market value, just shoot me an email.

On the outside chance that you're near Chicago in the next 10 days, we'll be attending the ANA show most days.

Congratulations on a once-in-a-lifetime find! Best wishes in how you proceed.

Do you know how many coins have been found to date? From the research I've done on the internet, the possible number is 16. I understand it's difficult to tell because some coins may have been graded more than 1 time.
