Great inheritance!

Take them out of the 2x2's if you want to shoot them properly, especially with those dang indians. Those incuse designs are IMPOSSIBLE to grade without great pictures.

Okay....sorry about the delay. I had to do a reboot as my email was not allowing me to download the last three sets of reverse pictures.

I am exhausted.....

I'm emotionally attached to the 2 x 2s as they have my grandfather's own codes written on them, so I doubt that I will do that.

Should I start a different thread for the $5 coins or just add them in here?

I have the time post 2 more coins before I have to move on to other things. Dang...I've been here for over 2 hours posting $2.5 coins!

OK, I'm only giving vague impressions as the images are a bit too small for accurate grading. The Indian Eagles are among the most difficult of all designs to grade, given their incuse design. But there's one spot I always look at immediately when seeing one, and that's the eagle's shoulder. Circulation wear shows there first on the reverse.

Only the 1909 and 1911 show any real wear there, and that spot is flat-enough on both for me to consider strike as a possible explanation. So what I'll say is, I see nothing in this whole series which is worse than high AU.

Edit: Start a second thread for the $5's.

Ok. I'll start a new thread for the $5 coins. I will post two of them and post the other ones at a later time/date.

Thanks for the replies!

Nice! Sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing. I hope he lived a full and long life.

Since it sounds like you're keeping the coins grades aren't that important. Leaving them in the 2x2s is fine; they can be graded by someone who has them in-hand while retaining the holders for posterity. Pictures will only allow guesstimates and we can help you out with that.

Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated. I do not intend to sell these coins. They will be passed down to family members after I have pegged out.

Guestimates are A-OK in my book.

You are so fortunate to have acquired these treasures. Very special mementos from your Grandfather.

A wonderful grouping coins! I hope that whomever you decide to pass these on to will treasure them as much you and your grandfather.

Grades are not so important given that these coins have value beyond just their monetary but since you requested it, here's what I think. The 1928, 1925-D, and 1915 look like they may grade a mid to high AU. The rest seem to be somewhere in the EF to low AU range.

Here's my guesstimates:

1928: AU55
1925-D: MS63
1915: AU58
1913: AU53
1912: MS63
1911 AU58
1909: AU50

This looks like a nice group of coins.

P.S. With pliers, I would carefully "cinch down" the reverse of the staples that are protruding (looping) through the back of the 2x2s. The staples should be flat with the cardboard on both sides to protect the coins if the holders contact one another.
