The RCM does nothing. The copying of coins made prior to 1949 is not illegal in China. Even Chinese coins prior to that date may be duplicated.

I understands that making copies of coins are legal in China, its a practise that should not be done, look there are fake pandas probably made in China. in Canada who else but the RCM has the copyrights and the legal rights to protect our coinage. As everyone on this forum knows about the recent copies of RCM nclt and maple leafs, why would any collector buy any new issue, if the RCM just does nothing.

Quote: The copying of coins made prior to 1949 is not illegal in China The NCLT coins are legal tender(nominally) and dated post 1949.Does that not make them illegal to produce in China? PS. nickelsguy is identification of counterfeit NCLT a part of your battle against the spread of Chinese counterfeits?

Yes it is DBM. There is a battle brewing which is being forced on the RCM. They could care less about the collectors out there. There are so few that actually confront them and the vast majority continue to purchase the garbage they produce. The next 90 to 120 days should be very interesting. p.s. imagine handing a counterfeit gold coin to a MP. Then telling/showing them a letter from the RCM which advises that the counterfeit NCLT stuff does not exist and is only for sale on scam sites. Was a lot of fun.

We all commend nicklesguys ongoing effort on this issue, in regards to nclt coins they are all encapsulated, if there is a rash of well produced counterfeits, how do one check crack them out of the capsule and do a xrf. The collectors who own the ladybug coin for example, what value would they be if good copies enter the market place.

As with the numismatic coins counterfeited, each and every counterfeit NCLT coin will have markers from the dies. They are identifiable and are being done.

My biggest worry is that they flood the market and then everything loses value. It does put a dent into collecting the real things.

Paisa, the information will be gathered and dispersed. The educated collector has nothing to worry about. Trust your dealers and reputable sellers. If the deal looks to good to be true......it usually is. Give me time to gather and disperse the info. I just wish the RCM would help. They do nothing and yet people continue to buy the garbage. No one except a few hold them accountable.

Gentlemen and ladies, coins are not the only thing that is or has been faked. China is the world leader in production of counterfeit everything. I have been in China very recently and was appalled at the sheer volume of items being faked. In fact, in Beijing, there is an entire shopping mall based on counterfeit products. The political will to take the Chinese government to task over this problem is simply put, not there. Large multinationals have learned the hard way that it is not profitable to set up shop in China because 2 or 3 weeks after the factory is open, there is an exact duplicate of whatever the product is on the market usually for 1/4 of the price. There is no justification proffered by the Chinese government at all concerning " black market" goods.

I've been reporting a lot of Chinese counterfeit auctions for Nclt coins on ebay the past 3 weeks. I wonder if it helps? I've even started contacting the buyer of these coins to educate them, and suggest they contact ebay and report the seller. Many of the buyers weren't aware they bought a counterfeit coin. So far, I've had a good response from buyers. Mike what can you offer on the topic? Will you be having any educational materials from your talk made? I'm a convert to trying to help stop the counterfeit problem. Soon it may be hard for the average person to tell a counterfeit coin just from photos. I'm still a newbie for the most part, and would love a list of coins to watch out for!

I haven't made any large purchases in coins ever.. I am still a buyer at very modest prices and I have really only bought at local auctions or through my LCS. I just made my 1st coin purchase on the bay at a fellow CCF's ebay auction. It has been a great learning experience and I'm looking forward to seeing some new coins. I have talked to mike about his presentation of coins... I'm looking forward to giving him a donation to his cause so I can see some of the photos he uses in in presentation. Mike is an amazing guy.. sometimes spending 1000's of dollars to keep his counterfiet collection current, and so he can identify these coins and report them. I like reading his post and seeing how he identifies fakes... and I would encourage any of you to attend one of his lectures to protect yourself.
