Very true...life is short, but this is a hobby that I thoroughly enjoy. I'm just hoping to find some upgrades and a 1955 NSF (about the only one I'm missing)not asking for much...*joking...only been searching for over a decade for one. I will eventually probably just buy one (so expensive though). I've looked at the same coin for years during our yearly trek to Whistler, at a shop in Vancouver...it just sits there (calling my name). Can't seem to buy it though...guess I enjoy the hunt too much.

Lucky you! Have fun looking through them, and maybe, you'll find some rarer pennies. Good hunting!

@ksmcents: I found my NSF in a half-filled Whitman album that I bought for a few bucks. Afterwards, I thought to myself, "hey, this isn't a bad way to try and find scarcer coins". In some cases, coins can leave circulation and find their way into an album before they are discovered as rare. You often see decent grade coins in albums. I seldom find stuff as good when I roll search. (It's fun, though, I am the first to admit!)
Anyway, you may find similar luck as me by occasionally checking albums. You probably already do, but thought I'd mention it!

bibd...thanks for the tips. I live in a pretty small town not much here. When I travel I go to antique & coin shops and swap meets and look as much as I can. (I've faired pretty well in "junk bins"). The problem lies in my head...if I'm gonna spend $200 for a VF-20 why not a few hundred more for EF-40 and then why not ?$k for MS?...(believe it or not it keeps me outta being compulsive and buying alot of the time). I know there are more to be found but sometimes I do get frustrated...then I switch to nickles for abit or back to Wheats and so on...it's a pretty sick cycle, but I don't get bored very often.
I often skim the Bay once and awhile (I noticed one sold today for $212 VF-20). I will start looking more closely at albums online though that's an awesome idea. Appreciate the help. Cheers!

Pretty happy with the results...
7 George VI with the oldest being a '43 in rough shape.
Did find 2 varieties I didn't have.
1947 Pointed 7 Maple leaf (EF) 1948 A to denticle Zoell L72g (VF)
None from the '50's
just over a hundred from the '60's (going through 'em today)
Most from 2000 and on with quite abit of 2006's (yep hoping for the 2006 magnetic)...be awhile before I get to 'em though).
Collection now sits at 267 total. It's a complete date set just missing a few varieties:
The main ones missing -
1929 High 9 1954 NSF (Proof) 1955 NSF 1962 Guitar 1963 Triple Hanging 3 1964 Extra Spine & Missing MG 2006 Magnetic
Currently adding Specimens and proofs as well.
The hunt continues...

Pretty excited about this one! It's an upgrade, I had one already but the "doubling" wasn't as dramatic, nor was the leaf doubled.

Do you use microscopes when searching for varieties?

Doubling is common for 1979 but that's a nice one!

Thanks O-train! Quote: Do you use microscopes when searching for varieties? No still old school with 2 Loupes a x6 and x10. I use the microscope rarely. It's mostly for taking pic's and cataloging/categorizing the collection.

1PPCLI - I appreciate the offer! I think there are rules though about trading until we have 150 posts and then we have to list them in the trading forum (I think). I'm not goin' anywhere though so stay in touch and I'd be more then happy to trade and exchange info.
qbvbsite - I do have some 78's: Here is my current list:
1978 - AU 1978 - Lamination Error 50% Obverse *Rainbow Toned - AU 1978-#136 - Double Back of Queen - AU 1978-#2084 - Die Clash Both Sides - EF 1978 Double 1978 - EF 1978 Double 78 - AU 1978 Double 78 #537 - Rotated 15% - AU 1978 Double 8 - EF 1978 Double 8 -#1428 -Double Queen's Neck - EF 1978 Double 8-#2084 - Die Clash Both Sides - AU
I just registered on your site today and am hoping to get around to posting my collection in the near future (love the site by the way!)
I just picked up a near complete set this morning that I am going through tonight to see if there are any upgrades or lil' gems that I am missing. So it may be awhile.
Cheers!
