Wow WTG on the 55-D and to top it off you got a box for half price !

Thanks!

I order boxes of nickels at least twice a week. They have always been $50 boxes. I did not know that I could order $100 boxes. Sweet! I'll find that elusive '50-D that much quicker!

I've been on a 2 week vacation from work, so I haven't been searching any rolls lately. Today, I went back (felt like I never really left, know what I'm sayin'?) and right off the bat I found a nice '53-S!

7 more holes to fill!

The rest are gonna be tough. '38-D, '38-S, '39-D, '43-D, '44-D (I have a hard time with the D War Nickels in my area), '50-D, and '51-S.

I just caught on to this thread today.
Congrats on all of your finds. Nickels were the first coins I earnestly collected due to the relative ease of finding most varieties in change and by roll hunting. There were a few I broke down and bought but the majority I found; much more enjoyable that way.
Unfortunately a coin collecting buddy found out I was saving nickels and he gave me two Littleton albums to put my nickels in, instead of the folders I had. I say unfortunately because the albums had spots for "S" mints (the proofs), which for the most part I ended up buying. Now my set is complete, aside from new releases.
Still looking for 2013's, and I still have never seen any 2009 nickels in change or roll hunting. Did they ever release any into circulation? I had to buy the 'P' and 'D' 2009's to finish the collection.

I'm not sure about the 2009s. I just threw everything back that was in the 2000s, so I never really looked very closely at them.

I've seen plenty of 2013s, though. As a matter of fact I have 2 full rolls of 2013-Ds that are all BU.

Most (I am not sure if all) U.S. coins dating 2009 have a low mintage. I still need to find both 2009 nickels

I got one of the key dates today! I searched a $50 box of nickels and on the last roll I found it! When I first looked at it, I thought it was a '58-S. Upon closer inspection, I realized the 5 was actually a 3.

So without further ado:

1938-S

I'm gonna post it in the modern coin grading sub-forum. Please tell me what ya think!

Nice find! Happy you took a second look at it, as at first glance it really does look like a 58. I hate those fonts that are hard to read.

Yeah, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I stared at that thing for a few minutes trying figure out the number.

I even showed it to a few people at work with mixed results. I was finally able to determine that it was a '38 after I took a photo and blew it up.

Nice finds! What a great collection so far, and I wish you good luck completing it! Jefferson nickels were always one of my favorites. Not the new ones, though.

Nice start you got there! I've been considering starting the early Jefferson collection, after I opened up a couple rolls and was very surprised at how many older ones there still are in circulation, obviously because of the composition

Well, my coin collecting budget has been blown out of the water due to my wife totaling her car. She is fine, thank God.

I'm down to just roll hunting at work for the time being.

So...I found a '51-S today!
