I got one of the American Museum of Atomic Energy capsuled dimes at an antique store for $6.00 a while back. Never really gave much thought to it until now.

If my mom was still with us, I could ask if she saved any. She worked at Oak Ridge while my dad spent 28 months carrying a 60 pound mortar around France and Germany. My mom passed in December, my 90 year old dad lives with me; he has some great stories to tell!

Both of your parents lived in a hard time. They are both part of American history. Thank you father on my behalf he is a true American hero!

Well I won the one I was bidding on.. $14.99 shipped.. A tad high for a circulated '44 merc... But it was the holder and history I was really paying for so I'm quite happy with it! The case is quite cool.. The coin is in the middle of the labeled "chip" and it has an aluminum ring around that with raised rims and a glass/plastic cover.. Quite neat!

I got the other one the same seller had, same price I agree, the novelty/history alone is worth the 14.99... I bought it to go with my WWII collection. I haven't gotten mine yet though... and I was a little disappointed that when I looked at it online again today I saw that the seller used the same pic for both auctions. Hopefully mine arrives in the same condition as yours.

From time to time I consider trying to put together a date set of those things.

Thanks 52Raymo for posting the link, I had intentions to put one here when I created the sale but got tied up and it slipped my mind. Its a pretty neat coin/capsule. Well, the capsule is what its all about, the coin is average. It is listed for the exact price I paid FYI. Not looking to profit, just figured I'd make it available to whoever wanted one.

I saw this thread a couple of days ago and thought that holder looked familiar. I stopped into my LCS today and sure enough, that's where I had seen it. He has one of the smaller holders with a Mercury dime for $11. I may have to pick it up next time!
