Of course, I will have to go with the humble Half Cent. Draped Bust is my favorite, with Classic Head a close second. I actually like the Draped Bust series from tiny Half Dimes all the way up to the glorious dollars - but I don't have any of the silver coins in my collection.

Quote:"The Capped Bust half dollar. Tons of history behind each one!" My true favorite is the Capped Bust Halves little sister the Capped Bust quarter. Probably because the hunt is so much more difficult. True rare coins that were used a tremendous amount. A problem free F-12 with great eye appeal really makes me drool! This is one of my favorites. I call it VF-35.

Liberty walking Half if you don't have the money, St Gaudens Double Eagle if you do.
Either need to be in MS62 or better.

There are a lot of beautiful classic coins but I have to go with Buffalo nickels. They look amazing both uncirculated and worn to the point of no date at all. You just got to love them...

My favorite old coins are the ones I get for free out of the ground with a metal detector. It's a real challenge to go out and find places that have 200+ year old coins to dig so I value them more than most of my store bought coins even if they usually have some condition issues. Besides, there's no pressure about which coin to get, what grade it's in or how much it cost, you take what you dig and that's that I like doing the restoration on these dug coins too. I've got a lot of pictures that show the coins fresh from the ground and then after I'm done with them. Some of them are pretty amazing transformations. If anyone's interested in seeing them I could post some up. Here's a 1787 NJ copper and 1782 Mexican 1 real that are just a couple out of the hundreds of early coins I've got my detector over in the last 20 years....
