Negotiate a price based on the coin, not the holder.

Obverse looks great but the reverse is sketchy. I would give it a VF35 Details. I would never pay an XF40 price for that.

Quote: ...Friday it was posted that the grade is XF40 BN. Of course this bring the price of this coin out of my range. Of course I could always sell a $100 face in silver and still get it. But .. I like the silver and I think this coin still has some issues... Not sure I'm following you here. Isn't this a $3,000 to $4,000 coin as certified, whereas a VF Details piece would be well under $1,000? Edit: P.S. I see now that you would try to raise close to $2k selling the silver. I wouldn't do it. There is no way I would spend $3k on that coin but you are not me. $3k is not a huge amount of money to some people. I'm not one of them!

3K? This coin is worth no where near that. Again, forget the NGC grade. $1200 tops for this coin. If not, move on. Done.

I saw it in hand yesterday too and it is a great coin, given age and significance. Steve tends to stay hardcore on grade=price though. Good luck with it! I think you should try to finagle that MS63 1833 Bust Half. It was to die for! PG

is that right? The 1794 Large Cent with the Head of 1795 does not have the hook on the lowest curl of Miss Liberty. I see a hook so, IMO, this is a Head of 1794.

Yep S-59 (it is hard to see in the pictures but the crack through the fraction confirms it) R-3- and a head of 94. Some of the heads of 94 also lack the hook in the lowest curl (for example S-43, NC-10, 44, 47, 48, 49). The heads of 95 S-67 - 72), with the exception of S-72 the exact head of 95, all have the lowest curl end in a loop.

I would give this one an upper VF grade at best. But still a great looking coin Id pay 1200$ in a heartbeat for this one...

The owner came in today.
A offer was made. He was not sure what to do. The coins were passed on from his mother, and he wanted to talk to his sister to see what they should do.
He seemed interested in selling. So all I can hope is he will come back in a couple days to sell the coin.

Good luck, I'd sure love to have that coin in my collection (not at $2-$3K +) But at $1500 or under I think it's a fair price for a really great looking old copper cent.
