I wonder if they still will still uphold the offer lol. In the June issue, they're selling 2006-W's for $99...if wonder if they'll sell them to me since it is june...

Prethen, it's only a joke. I do not see this as political. In fact, I think it's pretty pertinent since the Presidents' wives are being put on gold coins. This thread is not going to be allowed to turn political, but the above post was definitely intended as a joke only.

OK this may or may not sound like a dumb question. I have been buying up ASE's but only for the bullion value and not as a coin but have been seeing things mentioned recently like burnished and unburnished. I know that burnished means shinny or polished but none of my ASE's are shinny except my proof's so what are we talking about when we say a coin is burnished when it don't look shined or polished? The Eagle coins/planchets were not burnished, it was the dies used to strike them that were burnished. All of the burnished Eagles carry the W mintmark.

What I really wonder is exactly the statement of what is next? I mean in the past there has been baseball cards, guns, football cards, Beanie Babies, knives, Hot Wheel cars, postage stamps, Tiffany Lamps, etc. So although coins have been hot for a long time, I really wonder what is next?

so if I'm reading this right, these ASE's have gone up 4x value in just a few months? Were there just not very many minted? Aren't collectors informed of how many are minted when the coins are released? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm not a collector of ASE's........YET! :) |

Many things went into the rarity factor of the 2006W Eagles. They were originally just released in the two and three coin 20th anniv sets but then the Mint decided to mint them separately. The problem is they were not sold individually until September, very late in the year. Also, they were only being "minted to order" so intitially demand was low so production stayed low. By the time people realized how few of these were actually going to be available, it was too late. The original issue price was $19.95 but now they sell for $100+. The total individual mintage was 250,000 plus another 270,000 in the sets. The next rarest ASE is the 1996 with 3.6 million minted. Mintage figures are generally not widely released until production is finished. There are a few sources of updated mintage figures, but that still does not tell you how many total will be minted. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mint didn't go the way of baseball cards and start putting special "inserts" into rolls to get people interested.  LOL I got an email from the mint about the "burnished" W mint marks are available again. I got me three just now "just in case", I know I can always get melt or face value for them or even what I paid!  THey are describing them as in between the Silver Bullion and the Proof version of the SAE. Get yours now or buy mine later!   Edited by Nelrak
