If I'm reading your post correctly you found 42 DDO-003's. That is not a boat load, that's a ship full. I've been tempted to get some bags but have not pulled the trigger (yet).

The problem with bags are that they are rarely a big find, but mostly a lot of nothing. When you get a bag, you get examples of the run that filled that bag. Most of the time they are examples of 4-17 different die pairs. When you search these you can isolate the different dies with markers on the coins. If you find nothing in the first 10%, then the other 90% will pretty much be the same.

Bag hunting takes time and a lot of patience. I've been hunting for 1972 bags for a while and when I found a good resource I pounced. Put it this way - in 1972 they made about 3 BILLION pennies. Thats about 600,000 bags ( 5000 count coins) THAT is a lot of bags. And to find one that has a handful of the type 1 DDO's is probably unlikely, but it could happen. Good thing 1972 has a wide variety of errors, making me validate purchasing these. I don't mind the other 1972 DDO's at all. I'll more than likely make most of my cash back, and have about 1/2 the DDO's left to boot. Funny thing is, I am more excited about the 1962-P bag that is inbound to me. The 1962 has a wide selection of errors as well, and I'll see what comes up in that bag over the weekend. The 1962 bag has errors on the Obverse or Reverese, so robotically looking for PUP's on just one side isn't happening. But it should be a lot of fun.

The neat thing about rolls and bag is this: When you find a variety, find a marker that is common on them. Then when you get a coin, looks for that marker and it will save you some time.

I have 3 of the 1972 DDO 4's. Its an obsession of mine & hopefully when I get time to check for all the die markers on my other 72's with Cuds... I'll have more. Great finds on your part though. I found a 1955 DDO with my dad last week. The things that bring families together. If anyone's interested in #4 let me know. Pics will go up after work

<smirk> 1972 DDO #4 are pricey, for that much, I would simply buy another 1972-P Bag and hope for another 20-40+ DDO 3's or better. I have bought 2 1972 bags that my son and I have finished, and we are currently doing a 1969-P and a 1962-P. The 1962-P is a priority, it showing some pretty good finds, as I am about to post.

Looking forward to those 1962's especially. I gather you might live near Philly. I'm by valley forge & the roll hunting has been very very good as of late. That's how I found my 55- promise I'll do pics soon. Seems the economy has people dumping all their jars, saved since the 70's. I'm new to the forum but I'm very studious- I think they call it OCD. Anyway do itself a favor and mix it up a bit... I'm enjoying your pics. Best of luck!

I am on the East Coast, but I buy in bulk on most occasions, and I do buy specific rolls to hunt. I have a whole roll of 1963-D cents that the "63" is definately funky as well, and I will probably send a coin or two into ANACS and get those looked at. My son and I are stocking up for shows and also replenishing a few of our websites which have are low on DDO's and RPM's. I have posted a few pics of the better definate finds of the 1962 Mint Sewn bag we opened. The post is here https://goccf.com/t/160604

If you're going to the Whitman show in Baltimore- November 7-10, I believe. I'd love to meet up. Also if you need ddos & rpms, send me a list & I'll help you out. Greed is not in my vocabulary- unless I'm talking about someone else. Ha. I got 25c DDO from 65-71 (the important years), same with dimes. And the cents, boy oh boy do I have a lot of DDO's/ddr's. I believe I found a 82 DDR small date zinc. It's obvious doubling just need to check die markers. It makes sense for you to see in person- if interested

I am not doing the 2013 shows...Probably the 2014 in Baltimore. That really depends on the schedules for other shows and if they conflict. The Baltimore show is pricey, but supposed to be one of the best on the East Coast. The only RPMS and DDO's we are looking for at the moment are one Cent ones. Others are nice, but we're staying focused on what sells for us. We have 2 other places we buy from, another wouldn't hurt. We focus on what is absolutely obvious when it comes to DDO's and RPM's. Makes sales go quicker and without question(s).

I registered for the Baltimore show online & from what I gathered from the website, as long as you're willing to enter at 10 instead of 9, it's free. I went to the Philly expo & paid nothing. I was just going down to get a few things certified and just get a feel for the community as a whole. When you say obvious are you talking about coins like 1955 & 1972 DDO #1? Or perhaps one of the many years that look doubled with the naked eye & can be verified using a loupe looking for doubling markers etc... I do have a 55 that I'm willing to part with- after it's authenticated. Had one shop tell me it was missing the marker next to the T in cent. Yet, 3 others saw that missing marker immediately. Only thing is I would never sell a valuable coin w/o certification. I have just about every memorial DDO, not the 69 S but I do have the 70 S. plenty of 71's, 72's,quite a few 1980, 82/83 DDR & DDO, 84, 60's, 90's and so on. I can get pics together if u'd like. Most of them are red, some RB. Definitely something an established business owner could make $ off, plus it keeps me away from eBay- my bank acct was recently hacked. Lost everything & it's going to take some time to get my $ back. That's why I'm willing to part with some of the rarer coins in my collection. Well, that & I have multiples of so many years that it only makes sense to help someone else out. Btw I tried to email you because of lengthy post. No luck. Have a good one

If all looks good for the march show in Baltimore, minus conflicts, I will be there. I plan of setting up there, and I will probably get 4 tables since I plan to bring a lot of coins, main proofs singles from 1970 to present. My son and I have about 750-1000 proof singles and a decent amount of other coins. All together we will probably bring between 1500-3000 coins. I Just mailed off my Package to ANACS. I sent them nineteen 1972-S DDO #3's and one 1970-S Proof DDO Large Date over Small Date. I picked the best 19 out of 42 1972 DDO #3's and most should come back as MS65 or better. The 1970-S DDO Large Date/Small Date is in great shape, and I am hoping for a PF-66 or better on that one. I just purchased another 52 proof sets and I am going to go through those in November. From there we will be buying Silver Commemoratives, Morgan dollars and a few other coins. I don't care for any of the Zinc Cents what so ever. I don't like the risk, so I will remain within the realm of Copper. DDO's are nice, don't get me wrong, but in this economy people tend to stick to gold and silver a lot. They tend to buy a lot of low to medium dollar coins, anywhere from a buck to 30-40. We concentrate for all levels of the collector, but honestly, the cash comes from the $5-45 per item sales. We get tons of those. We might get a half dozen sales on items that cost over $250 each. So though DDO's help out the business owner, they probably will sit in a shop, or shopping cart for some time. I think this coming year the son and I will focus on RPM's, Proof coins, Morgans, and a Handful of different copper DDO's. I like searching for the DDO's so I may end up just buying bags instead of making major purchases of pre-graded coins. Those are low on the list right now, as the son and I are still sorting through the proofs, inventorying, grading, labeling and slabbing them all.

And that is exactly why I joined this forum. I needed straight answers from people who've had success in Numistatics. Bottom line, I'll do anything- to make a few extra bucks- without becoming morally inept. It's funny in a way because you read all the books & you learn as much as you possibly can- because let's face it... The books only take you so far. Then you get all these coins together, go to a shop, expecting wholesale prices. you then show them I.e. I have 2 beautiful 72 #4's. here's the markers, are you interested? Well, it is a 72 #4 but I had no idea they were worth so much so I'll pass. There's just way too much to know. Which makes me respect the Fivaz, Stantons, Wexlers & Potters of this world. You sound like you have a great business plan for the future & you've been more than helpful regarding myself. Best of luck to you & your son. Don't worry though. I got all my RPM's aside. So... I'll be bugging you again. Regards PL- today's find
