There's one for sale in an upcoming Sydney auction, I can't see a dot on that one:

Be aware of miniscule dots----the coin of Scotts Coins does have the micro dot in the same place as all the others.
The smaller dots sometimes cannot be seen because of the photo lighting glare.
What does differ about these dots are the size of them.

Now I am really curious about seeing the coin from the Noble auction in person, if there is a dot on that one it must be pretty small. Auction viewing is in two weeks so I can report back then.

Mine has a very tiny dot, hardly visible through magnification....earlier state die chip maybe

Yes---I can see the reason as an earlier state die chip-----BUT why do all coins have that pit mark on the die ? I thought back in the day these dies only lasted 30,000 strikes --- so all 24 dies had the same pit imperfection?
Seeing zonad's coin---his pit is in a different place----indicating 2 different dies at least ?

Looking closer, the dot does appear to be in the right place. What we thought was a dot was a spot in the toning.

I also checked two coins with Blundered I in Gratia and can confirm the dot on both. I suspect the dot was a chip on the matrix used to make the punch.

Thanks to Zonad and his conclusions-----the chip on the matrix transferred a pit on to all dies produced .
