I can actually remember back in the day (way back in the day) before quarters went clad, it wasn't uncommon to find Standing Liberty quarters in change once in a while. In 1965 when I was a kid, I went to all the stores in town changing dollar bills for quarters and visa versa until I had all silver quarters. At the time about half the quarters were still silver.

I actually do pretty well with quarters.
No clue on exact numbers, but I stop and grab rolls (usually $200-$300 at a time) on a regular basis.
Ive probably pulled 20-25 in the last few years. I know for a fact that I have found multiple silver quarters in one roll on 3 different occasions.

At work yesterday, the teller on my left sold a customer a roll of quarters which had a silver one in it. The customer, who was apparently looking for silver, showed it to me, but I didn't catch the year. And then about a half hour later, the teller on my right came across a silver War Nickel (1942-S, I believe) in a deposit. Nothing for me. Maybe another day!

I dug up a nice 1961 Washington while planting a small flower garden. It turned up right around the area in the lawn where my siblings, friends & I used to wrestle and do gymnastics almost 50 years ago.

I found a 1964 and a 40% bicentennial quarter at work. A coworker found 4 one day, and gave me 2 of them (64s).

I found two in some old change in a jar, but have had no luck finding them anywhere else. Silver change turns up about as often as three dollar bills in my area.

I've found over 30 silver dimes, some coming directly from customers, some in the till, and some that I've pulled out of rolls. They're still out there, you just have to be extremely lucky. I've also found two silver nickels. 3 Franklin halves, and 5 or 6 '65-'69 halves.

I have decided to give up on using coinstar. I still check though. Free money is the best kind of money!

I started looking when I was a kid (early 90s), and I think I've checked every quarter I've ever laid hands on. During that time, I found two 1964-D's--one in change from a gas station, and one that came through at my old work about 4 years ago.
I'd say that the only silver quarters that pop up in circulation are probably escaped from collections or silver hoards.

A 1960-D in change today from Mickey D's.
I think a few can also bounce around from change jar to change jar, Finn. A lot of people squirrel away pocket change for many years, then finally take it to the bank. One thing for certain is once they hit active circulation they are snapped up pretty quickly by someone wise to their value.
Not sure how many I've found since I was a kid. I'd say about 4-5 after 1975. I put my hands on a lot more as about 40-50 percent of change was silver in 1970, when I noticed they were different. By around 1974 or 1975 they were pretty much gone.

Two. One '60D found in change from a burger joint drive through. Heard the sound of silver and the lady thought it was fake, I told her I'd take it anyway. Other was from when I worked retail, a '64D.
Other than that, I've either traded or bought all the silver quarters I have.
