The candy cane and the second and third glow in the dark coins are all selling below issue on ebay currently. Flippers took a bath on the second and third Glow in the Dark coins. Many had bought upwards of ten, some were lucky to return them to the mint or CP. the caribou has yet to prove itself, it's co creator is Steven Bromberg of the coin show. |

@ Stefanos1111I agree with both Silveroid, arianzo and l yradnoj. These coins are worth buying if you like them and can afford them. They are not a real investment, but rather collection items. Most likely you'll be lucky if they retain their value over time. Don't count on them increasing in value, in fact expect the opposite. But nobody can be sure when it comes to predicting the weather, oops I mean future...  P.S. edited to say I agree with pocket change 50 too! Edited by NuMoosematist

I couldn't find anything in another thread to that effect either. He said on the shopping channel today that he help designing the iconic polar bear and that he had a significant portion of the mintage but he's didn't even have the caribou for sale (at least on the hour I watched). Did he really commission both the polar bear and the caribou? |

Oh sorry I had confused the 2 coins. I remember reading somewhere, maybe even this forum that 3 coins were commissioned by a dealer. He also had a hand in the pond hockey coin, and I would guess the caribou is the third one commissioned. Maybe we will learn by Monday if he helped with the concept of the third, it would seem to fit. As Steven was also responsible for the dream catcher coin. He had a great deal today that sold out. He was offering the praying mantis coin for $48 instead of $69.

Ok thanks. It could be. I hadn't heard anything about him being involved in the Pond hockey coin either.
Still haven't heard who did the Autumn Bliss. Wouldn't it be great if the Mint had a communications officer who could answer these questions....or even a whole department. lol.
edit to add: just giving it some more thought; it's odd that he said he was involved in the design of the polar bear because I think that design came from a previously released gold coin. Maybe he meant he proposed the idea to colour it and put it on a 1 oz silver coin. lol
He does tend to exaggerate quite a bit...I find myself laughing at quite a few of the things he says on air.

I got my polar bear and a couple other coins I wanted for awhile on their 5 month payment plan. This way I won't be paying interest on my credit card. It's like a short term interest free loan. I wonder how he's able to make the coins look so good. I only buy the coins that are still at issue. The others tend to be quite expensive. One example is the first 8 $20 4 $20 coins present in a beautiful mahogany box for $330 or the Calgary 1975 silver dollar with the 2012 color Calgary's quarter for $69. Also during the Christmas shopping period you can do up to 6 payments and anything over $150 is free shipping with code SHIP150.

Earlier this year, he did 'have a hand' in the Coronation and the Dreamcatcher, but for the November release, I'm pretty sure he 'had a hand' again for the Pond Hockey, Polar Bear and 5 Oz. Beaver. I think that's why these three, and only these three, come with a signed art card by the artist of the coin, and only if you buy them from him. The Dreamcatcher was the same way.

My point was that he didn't claim to have anything to do with the beaver (odd since he usually takes every opportunity to promotes himself). Maybe he did but I've seen nothing to support that other than opinions and rumours.
The Pond hockey nor the Beaver say they come with a signed card either on his website or on the TSC. Where did you see that they do?
Regardless, a signed card means nothing. It's just pure speculation to say he was involved in any meaningful way with the creation of these coins. You could be right (or not). I really don't know, but if someone has information from a hard and reputable source, please share it.

On the actual show he was showing signed cards for all three items, each time that they appeared. For that reason I just assumed that he had some input in them or some involvement in the process. But you're right, it is just pure speculation. And it fits with the Mint's release that 3 coins from the November issue were commissioned by dealers. It would be nice for them to explain which coins and by which dealers. I guess that explains why the Polar Bear appeared to be so 'hot', because Bromberg probably got a decent chunk of the mintage to sell since he commissioned them. And, here's one more connection - which may be unrelated. On Bromberg's CDN C&C website he is doing a Christmas giveaway/draw type thing. The prize: Swimming Beaver 5 Oz., Iconic Polar Bear 1 Oz., Pond Hockey 1 Oz. and the Dreamcatcher coin. I just wish we didn't have to do so much 'speculating'. The Mint should just make all of this known. |
