@ Commems that is my thinking too. They didn't place a total limit on the number 5 packs that they would sell. In the past, the website has stated 60k packs or some other number but I don't see that here.

The mint received lots of complaints that the 5 packs sold out too quickly and their response is to reduce the numbers on confirmed orders? They could simple have produced more packs to meet the demand but they chose to alienate some of their best customers.

I received a form e-mail from my rep today about Mint changing it's policy on circulation packs to cut back to 3 per household.

So far I'm resisting the urge to changemy policy to cancel all of my outstanding orders. I placed my order and it was confirmed 17 days ago and they change it now? I really don't know if I would accept such customer service from any other retailer or if I will take it from the Mint.

I agree CC.

As I mentioned Monday I had written an email to my rep expressing my frustrations after hearing about the new limits on circulation packs. Well, now 3 days later I still have not received any sort of response or acknowledgment that he even read my email.

Now here is the worst part, that was Monday, and for the first time since I've had a rep I did not receive the pre-MasterClub release email on Tuesday! Did I "burn my bridges" by simply voicing my opinion?

To put this lightly, I am very upset, especially if this how the RCM treats their loyal customers and the collectors that support their business.

Oh the irony of seeing that in the NCLT forum... one would assume there is no pun intended...

I did get a response from my rep and though it was completely dissatisfying, I'll give him credit for taking the time to type something out. Perhaps your rep is on vacation?

But now I have to wonder why I need a rep. About the only remaining advantage to having a rep was increased limits. I can order on line faster than I can contact him to order for me. None of the coins sell out in pre MC release and this month I even received the hard copy catalogue before the pre release e-mail. With the exception of these circulation packs, I can get as many of any coin that I want (usually at a discount) from other sources. And even with these circulation coins, I can get rolls of them at my bank. There will be literally millions of them minted.

Add to that, how can I trust that any future confirmed order will be filled? Clearly, the Mint can change my confirmed order on a whim so why should I believe they won't do it again? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Ya I know, build a bridge and get over it.

As I typed that response, the pun never even occurred to me.

Coincidentally, Today's post brought me my 3 sets of 5 Lucky Loonies. Unfortunately, one of my usual 'receivers of gifts' will go without this round, unless of course, I give her mine!

Maybe later I'll see the humour in that comment Moose.

@ CC

Sorry CC!

I didn't mean to make light of the shabby way you and many others have been treated by our favourite Crown Corporation.

It would appear that the mint's mission to to go backwards (as Dcadon pointed out) , instead of improving the way they deal with their best customers.

Here are some of examples.

1) We used receive the tracking numbers in our shipping confirmation emails from the mint. These disappeared a few years ago, and now we have to waste our time and that of the mint employees', having to call to obtain them.

2) MC members were assigned a designated mint representative to help us order coins early and obtain more than official limits. This appears to be no longer the case.

3) Mint reps are not provided with much information about new releases and cannot give customers much help. They are not able to help with anything to do with delayed shipping. Their main purpose appears to be to pump up sales.

4) In the past, when we ordered via a rep, we would be able to at least see our orders on our online Order history page. For now, this is no longer the case. Now we see a message on the page informing us:

Information about orders placed offline:

Note: Orders not submitted on http://www.mint.ca site will not appear in your "order history". We are working towards having all orders listed under your order history to better serve you. To inquire about orders not listed in your order history please contact our Customer Solution Centre: 1-800-267-1871 (Canada) / 1-800-268-6468 (US) / (613) 954-2626 (International).

I can only hope the the folks ruining the mint will wake up and take the necessary steps to improve.

I am not holding my breath.

So now CC, do you see the humour in my facetious comment?

P.S. I have it on good authority that by the end of the year the mint will be taking down their website and closing their call center completely. All orders will have to be made by snail mail to help out our other favourite Crown Corporation, the financially struggling Canada Post!

Still drives me nuts that they don't give tracking info or shipping notification anymore. I came home today to again find a RCM parcel hanging out of my mailbox, just sitting there waiting for anyone walking by the house to take it. Sometimes those boxes have $50-80 worth of coins and they are coming via xpresspost. I have no idea why they don't require signatures but since I don't know they are coming, I can't even be on the look out for them nor would I know if they did go missing. Thank goodness CP is probably going to solve that problem.

In quizzing my rep today, he told me that the missing orders on the website problem is now encompassing all orders no matter how they are placed including directly from the website. I have no way of confirming that but that's what he said when I noted that I couldn't access the LL order because it was placed through him. And then he through out that there is no timetable to correct the problem but he expects that it will be quite awhile before we see orders on the website again. Incredible.

Still looking for the humour.

CC-Ottawa: In fact, RCM and almost (or all) dealers have a policy that says that even if you order 100 times the same item, they reserve the right to cancel them, and just sell you one in order to be able to sell to other customers.

You are referring to the terms and conditions of sale. And yes almost every business has terms that allow them to modify order quantities or outright cancel orders. Incidentally, the Mint also reserve the right to changes prices and I think it would be very interest to see the reaction if they did that.

The point is, having wide reaching terms doesn't mean that it's always good business practice to exercise them. Add to that the casual means in which they handled this - they literally notified me of the order change a couple of hours before the coins arrived at my doorstep - and this becomes very distasteful.

T&Cs are nothing new. What is new, is the Mint changing large numbers of orders on a whim weeks after they were confirmed.

In any case, I apologize for jacking this thread. It's a bit unfortunate we've gotten away from talking about the coins released in January. Time to let it go here and take it up with the RCM directly.

Received my 2014 Fine Silver Proof Set from GW yesterday...

I like the way the gold-plating enhances the relief of the young couple embracing in the foreground vs. their appearance in the standard proof version.

This has happened to me and it took a long time of arguing with the mint to get things corrected and back to the original price. Complaining to the mint was not successful, complaining to consumer protection agencies was not successful (us citizen complaining to Canadian agency didn't seem to be taken as seriously), complaining to the credit card company however was very successful as their terms of service on the website did not stand up to scrutiny by VISA in regards to charging more than they had been approved to charge. I had to prove that I had tried to resolve it before going to visa but once I got to that stage it was resolved (in a couple of months via visa's complaint timing, but successful none-the-less)

I use to put the $100 and $200 gold coins on 'reserve' for after August delivery (I work a lot of OT in the Summer). A couple years ago, my rep called me to tell me the golds were going up in price due to the rising spot price of gold. He did give me an opportunity to get in at the original price - I thought that was very fair. I purchased them on my credit card, and by the time the bill was due, the money was in the bank.

I really like the different gold tones, it really makes the couple pop. I will get my set later in the yr. I received my 2 1 Oz igloo coins they are very nicely detailed. I like the action of the 3 people over just the one on the half Oz. I hope they send the case as promised. I'm not to impressed with just the coin & COA in bubble wrap. The way it was sent, they could of used a bubble mailer instead of the box. The coin is nice with the different textures.
