The only mistake would be not to give it to your father.
As silver art bars do not appreciate, the value lies in the bullion and the joy it gives to a person.
A very thoughtful gift. He will love it.

I believe giving money or gift cards aren't very thoughtful. I repeat, this is my personal opinion and some will disagree. By giving such a silver bar, not only did you carefully consider what your dad like, you have also taken an interest in such fine art.

I concur with your opinion on giving gift cards, unless the card is requested for a specific store and purpose (i.e. Home Depot card to be used toward buying an air compressor or something). I also agree that you should totally give this gift. It'd be something he would appreciate, from the sound of it.

Looks like a very nice art bar. Not all art bars have mint marks so I would not worry too much.

A very thoughtful gift, if my kids gave this to me, I would love it

WOW! Now that would make a great gift for anyone. And if your into trains, even better. Even if it wasn't Silver, I think it's a great gift for anyone. It is artistic and the thought of giving something of meaning is what is important. And again, that would be a fantastic gift. Sure wish someone would get me one like that.

You can't go wrong giving it to your father. Many (hopefully) years from now, you might inherit it back!

I'm learning a lot here. All I know are the magnet and acid testing. Before making any purchase, I always ask the seller to have a test run. Well, I just found a lot of silver mementos like this but the bottom line is, we should educate ourselves about the product that we want to buy.

Wow, those are beautiful, I couldn't get great pictures of my train one because the lighting is bad in my room, but it does look nice, and he loved it, gave it to him today.
