I understand as well. I will probably look for a decent looking one in a PCGS genuine holder. Meanwhile there are some varieties I would like to pickup before I take the 1815 plunge.

When certain dates prove to be stoppers
From bright shinny gold to the coppers,
Take solace in this:
Just follow your bliss.
Take pride in your coins that are whoppers!

One thing I have learned from double eagle collecting is patience. Good coins will always come your way, however it can take time. It took me four years to find an "O" mint double that I was satisfied with for the collection. For 1807 and 1815, I will be perfectly happy to give a decent looking coin in a "genuine" holder a home as well.

So what next 1839-o? How many different die marriages do you have? You could move on to Draped bust halves 1805-1807 aren't to bad.

Aiming at varities now. Like those of 1823, 1828, 1834, 1813 50/UNI, etc.

No big rush on the 1815. I'll shop for one I can live with in a PCGS genuine holder.

I tell you folks...the "fever" is unrelenting...lol. Now I am cherry picking raw busties. It's fun!

Still lack the 1815, as the right one has simply not come along yet. Otherwise the collection spans 1805-1836.

Yeah, when it comes to something like attribution of an old rarity like that, either a PCGS or NGC slab is a simply a method to achieve 'peace of mind.'

Although I hate to admit it, I've been ripped off one too many times just because I never had adequate time to research the nuances that counterfeiters can often conceal for all of these coins...

I think I am actually going to join PCGS for the 1st time before this year's end for $ 199 which gives 8 slabs @ $ 25 each if my memory serves me correctly.

I remember reading that their prices are increasing on 1/1/15 unless one becomes a member this year in which pricing will stay the same for 2015...

I agree, mdp. All of my bust halves are graded PCGS or NGC, no "genuine" so far. Not only does a PCGS holder make me rest easier on a coin like a 1815 CBH, it gives me confidence that the others are authentic as well. It also gives me an assurance of a certain level of quality as well. However, I do cherry pick even with the slabbed and graded ones.

I am now single digits away from 100 different Overtons. It's getting scary, folks.

Do you have the Overton book, cipster?

I got the 5th edition a bit ago. It's a good version of it.

Congrats to you, 73 Overtons is not an easy feat.

Not sure what is up with the website. Keep in mind 1839-O won't count for membership, as it was struck on a steam press. It's only 1794-1836 lettered edge halves for the BHNC, and each must be a distinct Overton. For instance if you have an 1810 o.108 and a o.108a, that will only count as one Overton of the potential 450.

I am over 90 varieties now. Completed attribution of 1836 (sans O-121) and moving on to 1810
