Why did you question the authenticity of the coin? Something bother you about the ASE?

Wait, so you swapped this out of a customer deposit for a $1? That is a pretty sweet deal if that's what happened. The interesting thing is that it has been in circulation. Surprised someone took it as 'real' money.

Quote: Why did you question the authenticity of the coin? Something bother you about the ASE There was nothing in particular that caused me to question it, however I also have read about all the fakes of these things floating around, so I was just wondering if there was anything I should be looking for with it. The four ASE's that I already had were all purchased at the same coin shop, which is very reputable in this area, and I'm a relative novice when it comes to silver eagles. If it is too good to be true, it really IS too good to be true. I understand why you questioned it: You only paid a dollar for it.
This happens to be an exception to the above rule.

The picture quality is poor, but I don't like the date. It looks to me like the 9's are different styles.

That's a combination of poor picture quality and dirt or tarnish near the rim. A close examination of the date shows that they are the same.

It always amazes me what people will spend as money. Yet just have to try to understand that many people are not coin or currency collectors so they will spend anything as must money. That one is a great example.

If you decide on a comparative ring tone test, rest the centre of the coin on the tip of a finger and gently tap the rim with another coin.
There is NO need to drop ANY coin on a hard surface for a ring tone test.
If it is a proof or MS+? coin, cut a small square out of a plastic bag, and put that between the tip of your finger and the coin, to avoid finger marks.
