As in the first post .. this was for information on ASE's. My friends and family pooled their money with mine to buy ASE's. Pretty sure they would not be happy with me buying something else. I do have examples of other bullion coins, at least 12 different ones. But in the small towns we live in the Kooks and Pucks .. and others do not bring a premium when selling back to the LCS's. IMO .. when buying hundreds of coins .. and then waiting to sell them, it is harder to sell any premium coins. |

BTW...ASE's have NEVER been available at melt...but that's just since 1986

Me too ... I will buy any problem free ASE at melt .... Helping out out coin shops for the last three years ...what I see is ASE are the biggest ...quickest seller |

It's not a horrible price, but as you can see from yesterday on this topic, APMEX had a sale that was $450 for 20. |

APMEX must have cut a sweetheart deal with ebay to be able to sell ASEs that cheap. Even as a power seller they will be losing 9% to sellers fees if they pay the normal transaction fee structure. $22.50 for coins that are roughly $20.00 melt is a pretty skinny margin when to take into account they are free ship! I work for a company that ships millions of dollars of product a day and even at their bulk shipper rate they would be paying around $3 to ship ten coins. So let's do the math... $225.00 - $3.00 to ship - $20.25 in ebay fees - $210.00 for the coins (they pay $1 over melt at wholesale) = $8.50 loss! I just don't see how they can swing this....it makes no sense. Even if ebay waived their fees entirely they would still only make $12 on a $210.00 investment. I don't see how they stay in business unless they do HUGE volume and have minimal overhead. By anyone's measure there isn't enough profit there to

I agree.... APMEX does do a huge volume...this sale along sold over 1500 sets of 10 ASE's. Unlike their website the ebay deals are fixed in price and do not move with changes in spot so they are taking a bit of a chance. Good deal and when you add free shipping AND no charge for CC use it was "sold" in my book. My rolls came signature guaranteed USPS...shipped within a couple of days. Today's deal is .999 Buffalo silver rounds 10 for $239 shipped. Not a bad deal either. Edited by Foxwoods Man

Remember also, that APMEX is an Authorized Purchaser from the mint. Where as Provident and MCM must buy their coins from an AP at an additional mark up, APMEX pays only the $2.00 per coin, over spot, mark up from the Mint. So if APMEX bought a couple of monster boxes at the beginning of the month, when spot was $19.25, they are into the boxes at $10,625, whereas other dealers, who have to pay APMEX and other AP's an additional markup of, let's say $2.00 per coin, are into their boxes for $11,625 if not more. That is how APMEX is able to have the lowest prices and I am sure they twist the knife a little by running minimal profit specials, just to see what small competitors they can drive under. |
